Paisley Park is not in my heart

Never liked this song, what do you guys think of this song. This and the self title track are the weakest on the album imo.

I'll agree with you about the title track- never liked it.

Paisley Park is top notch for me, though. boxed

I absolutely love it. Perfect pop song. Breezy, catchy and imaginative.

I think Tamborine and Raspberry Beret are the best songs on that album. I also like America better than Paisley or the self-titled track.

I love Paisley Park very Beatleish IMHO.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I always listen to it, I love the intro, it does have that magical mystery tour..sgt pepper quality, but it doesn't go anywhere further for me than the first minute of the song....the 12' is better.

It's a good album in that it didn't chase the commercial success garnered from Purple Rain. I thought Prince had abandoned his randb side with that one though. Glad he didn't..

This is without a doubt, one of the best tracks on the album as far as I'm concerned. His guitar work on it, is incredible.

To each their own, but I've always felt "America," "Pop Life," and "The Ladder," were the weakest on this CD.

Although, the rehearsal version of "The Ladder," seen on "Prince, A Musical Portrait," gave me new respect for the song.

And to top it all off... seeing him perform "Paisley Park," at the 2002 Xenophobia Celebration at Paisley Park, made the song even more special.

I too have thought it to be a weak track..still can't believe it was a single...though there are very few "singles" on that album. The only thing I like about the song is the chorus...but I think that the drum track and the almost carnivalish melody to it...I dunno I have heard better. Also for a song titled Paisley Park, one would think a better job could have been done.

Now the title track. That's one of my favorites. Very colorful and never gets to the dance part...which it could have done (the demo also suggests this) but it stays where it does. It's very whimsical.

I think though that the songs I really don't like are The Ladder and Temptation.. Very lack luster attempts at a religious song and a "closing" song.

My favorites are Tamborine and America.

Actually I loved that song from the first listen. It is an aquired taste really...I sense alot of Beatles influence in it..and I am really not a fan of the Beatles experimental stuff (pop hits tho were great in the early sixties)...but I really like this song. It is uplifting. I even like the video...even tho it is shot really cheaply it is so happy and eighties and I noticed alot of alternative videos in the ninties followed a similar formant. Prince is such an inovator! biggrin

I love this track myself, but then again I am partial to anything Prince has done in the 80's.

Reminds me of The Beatles.

Are u kidding me? Paisley Park is a trademark Prince Song.
His own utopia...lisen to the lyrics and imagry. The beatle influence
is clear. This song and the title track both have great imagry
in the lyrics....the worst song on the lp is probably Tambourine.
And that song is even good....

It's a great homage to the psychadelic era and as mentioned earlier his guitar work is outstanding. The album was perhaps the bravest thing a "pop" artist could have done after the success of Purple Rain and I would challenge anyone to find another artist of that time who could have come up with that. The only weak track on the cd (if weak is the right word) is The Ladder, the rest are pure gold!!

Certainly he deserves props for not making an obvious follow up. But it's still a hit and miss affair to my ears.
