First memory of him is the Let's Go Crazy video on the mtv. I was 13 and blown away. I thought he was a "rock-god." Later learned about The Funk. But at first - he was the ultimate rock star to me. Loved the song, clothes, attitude, the colors/lighting. I was hooked right then.

i saw the 1999 videoclip, and i thought the song was weird but exciting and that the dude was definetly a freak, but had to learn more of his music.....

1999 would have to have been my first too, though it wasn't when it was released, it was on Video Hits and was one of the last songs being played (like a countdown to the new year from 1999-2000) I remember not liking it and thinking Lisa and Wendy were really lesbians (from the key board scenes - hey i was *counts back* 12!)... actually I haven't even cleared that thought up yet either!
I haven't really appreciated Prince's music until mid last year... hmm I'm absolutely adoring his music now though! haha and so she has converted! <3

1st time I saw him was in 81 or 82, the Sexuality video on BET, a video show called " the funky rock show", 1st song I heard was Lets Work, I thought Prince was a group.

I remember seeing Prince highlighted on some nightly show. Around the same time, I won the Controversy album and tape along with some promotional items from a local radio station. Since then, I have been listening to Prince.

And yes, Wendy and Lisa are lovers. Jill isn't, to my knowledge, a lesbian, she was with Prince at one (that?) point. My first real introduction to Prince was Betcha By Golly Wow video, and I thought it was the most amazing, fantastical thing I'd ever seen. I was 16.

Hearing "let's pretend we're married" in a friends car and thinking I MUST OWN THIS! [Edited 6/5/05 8:32am] _______________________________________________

My 1st was hearing Delirious while out taking a drive with my moms. Being 10 at the time I loved the kazoo part as well as the drum beat. The 1st time I remember seeing him was on some award show (can't recall which) and it was just something about him that made him stand out. It wasn't his clothes or anything like that, it was just something about him that made me wonder "who's that guy... and why's hearing heels?"

Well I've seen him since a baby, but one day when I saw for the first time in a long time (I wasn't the fan I am today) and he was on the Sexiest People on VH1 i remember thinking, "Oh, He's Fine!" and I've thought he was bea-yoo-tee-ful ever since.

I was first introduced to him about a year before Purple Rain his. I was about 13 and one of my cousins turned me on to the 1999 album. I had the album sleeve on my wall.. you know the one where he's lying in bed with his ass hanging out playing with watercolors. Back then, that was something REALLY different. When Purple Rain came out, I almost had a heart attack! I saw it five times.
Those were the days. Come here, babe.. yeah...

My first memory is hating the song 1999 back in '82, then hating The Beautiful Ones in '84, and then loving Another Lonely Christmas in late '84. I was 9. Keep your headphones on.

yeah what he/she said. I was 12, it was 1983, he wore a glove just like Michael Jackson but was so much cooler.

The premiere of the "Cream" video. The VJs were talking about the piece having been criticized by feminists before airing it.

My first memory of Prince, wow. I think back to the middle to late 70s and Prince was just starting to blow up. He was putting on a show at a local Minneapolis club (bar) they are the same to me. Anyway, my friends and I saw these little flyers posted on all of the lamp posts and telephone poles through out Minneapolis and on these flyers they had Prince's picture. Well, the picture had Prince dressed up in leg warmers and jeans with a long coat. So, my friends and I took down the flyers and made paper airplanes out of them! Man, feel so bad now. I am sorry Prince.
But anyway, my sister got ahold of one of his 94 East tapes and played it at the house one day and at first listen, I thought that it was pretty wild or weird. But after time I got use to it and really enjoyed the music. And you have to think back, Minneapolis did not have any R&B stations back then and music was pretty weird anyway, so as kids we were kinda lost on the homeboy. But in time I learned to love his music and plus he put Minnyapple on the music map!! Thanks, Prince “When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a Communist.” Brazilian bishop Dom Hélder Câmara

I feel ancient... Most people on this post seems (to me) like they were jusrt introduced to our Prince...
My first recollection of Prince, and knowing who he was, was at a family get together when in Detroit (of course) during the Prince album days. Although I do remember Soft and Wet being on the radio back then, but didn't make the association until later. "..Just close your eyes and count to 10...and when U open 'em I'll B standing naked with nuthin' but a SMILE on.."

My first Prince memory is hearing "I wanna be your lover" then seeing him perform "I wanna be your lover" and "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?" on American Bandstand way back in 1979.
I had heard "Soft and wet" on the radio before that, but since it was only a minor hit back then, there was no identification with Prince and that song for me at that time. "Always blessings, never losses......"
Ya te dije....no manches guey!!!!! I'm a guy!!!! "....i can open my-eyes "underwater"..there4 i will NOT drown...." - mzkqueen03
