It's a problem in the lungs that makes it VERY PAIFUL 2 BREATHE. I'm taking medication, but still want 2 smoke. Any ideas will b welcomed!! It's been 2 days and it's hard as hell!! I have quit cold turkey. I smoked a pack a day. "Everybody's looking 4 the ladder, everybody wants salvation of the soul. The steps u take r no easy road. Moderator | Drink lots of water. And I mean get a sports bottle with a sling and carry it around with you.
Seriously helps things. The first three days are the worst. I also recomend taking hot showers often. (two or three times a day, it breaks the edge) Stay away from sodas, beer, or any other alcohol, greesy foods, and especially coffee. For caffine, just drink tea. This will help in the "I gotta have a cigerette with my coffee, and after dinner time cravings". I'm not sure why, but bad foods and habits just complement other bad habits. After that it's about a week's worth of hacking up all kinds of junk from your lungs. It will seem like your always congested. Don't give in buddy. you can do it! All Rights Reserved. |

Moderator | I read somewhere that studies showed that the withdrawl from smoking was equal to that of heroin.
Never tried heroin, but I know what it was like to put those coffin nails down. You'd think they put crack in those things the way your body goes crazy. If anything else, pray. When it gets it's worst, pray. Good luck! All Rights Reserved. |

Heroin is easier to kick than cigarettes..thats a known fact. Hang in there! Put away all sharp objects and let others know what you are doing--that way they will understand why you are being an asshole towards evveryone and everything. But if you love yourself, your family etc. you WILL find the steength to quit. Look for someone who is proficient in behavioral techniques to help you. "Climb in my fur."

Please don't hate on me, but here is my story. I decided for religious reasons (I wasn't concerned about health at the time though I should have been.). Anyway, I prayed one nite that God please help me to quit. I asked Him to take the craving away. The next morning, I was a non-smoker. I had only smoked about 6 years. Boy did I save a lot of money!
Wish you success. | |

If you had set times when you would smoke a cigarette then try to change those habits. It becomes so easy to fall into a pattern, but if you change them, it might take the emphasis away on smoking. For example, if you would ALWAYS smoke after lunch, then try to change what you eat and where you eat and what time you eat at so you don't follow the pattern and smoke afterwards. I might not make much sense, but I hope you're following.
FYI: For a lot of drug overdoses, the reason people OD is not because of the amount of drugs they take, but the different circumstances they fall under. Before you take drugs, your body begins these physiological processes to remove the harmful drugs from your system, so these body-cleansing responses become conditioned when you're in the same environment. So when you take the same amount of drugs you take every time in a different place, your body doesn't start the body-cleansing processes, and you OD. You dig? (Does it connect or is it a stretch?) Good luck, I hope you can quit smoking alltogether, that would be a wonderful thing. I mean, like, where is the sun?

christopher, hang in there bro!
friday is my 4-month anniversary of quitting after smoking a least a pack a day for 7 years. i'm not real sure what made me finally decide to quit, but i had just visited my year-old nephews and had gone outside for a smoke and just thought "why do i want to be the uncle who's always disappearing and then coming back all smelling like ass?" i quit cold turkey for the first 2 weeks...yamomma mentioned drinking lots of water, which is an excellent idea. i also allowed myself for the first 2 weeks to eat pretty much whatever i wanted. i used to have a really inactive appetite when i smoked...sometimes i would go a day or 2 without really eating anything. in those first2 weeks, my taste buds began to regenerate and i realized that i didn't enjoy eating when i was a smoker b/c i couldn't really taste the food! (on a side note, i DID end up gaining 18 pounds in 90 ays - d'oh! but i'm on a healthier diet and starting to run again). any kind of physical exercise is incredible helpful to just get that nervous energy out of your system. also, the more you sweat the faster the toxins are cleansed from your body after 2 weeks i was a total raving cunt (and i'm a guy) so i bought some of the nicotinegum....try to get a generic brand an you'll save a good $20 a box. bought..,maybe 4 of those over the next 6 weeks or so....and now i can even be around smokers and VERY rarely even get the urge. my energy level is through the roof....and i'm saving tons of money. not to mention my car no longer smells like a casino in vegas. BEST OF LUCK christopher...and if you slip up, just quit again. you're too good to smoke! just look at the people smking at work and conince yourself that they are just not as strong as you are even if some of them are your friends. don't tell 'em that or anything just think it to yourself. anyway, mad props to you. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

Three things:
1) You've got to change your habits. If there is a favorite chair you sat in to smoke, sit somewhere else. The hardest part is if you smoked at work, but it can be done. Instead of smoking at breaks, go out and throw a tennis ball against the wall while chewing gum, just to reassociate the mouth and finger habit with something else. Whatever you do to change, do it for at least a month to break the association. 2) DO NOT COUNT HOW MANY DAYS YOU'VE GONE WITHOUT CIGARETTES. Every day is day one. Set your mind that you can make it through one day. I did this until I forgot how many days it was that I had gone without cigarettes. (Yea, I had a general idea, but didn't focus on keeping an exact number.) 3) Kill one bad habit at a time. I allowed myself to splurge on anything else I wanted as long as I didn't touch a cigarette. Gained some weight, but lost it afterwards. Getting off of the cigarettes was more important. Water definitely helps. The key is association. If you drank coffee while smoking, guess what? You have to drink something else. One day at a time, and we're here for support.

Moderator | A good reminder for me is this lady next door to my job that I see out the window. She must smoke about three packs a day.
Her face looks like a rasin. Her gums are black. Her teeth are falling out. Her hair looks like it's falling out as well and is very tangled. She must weigh only 90 lbs and she looks almost 6ft tall. Her eyes are so glazed over. And you can hear her coughing through the window from the inside all the way accross the court yard. Now thats a a good reminder. All Rights Reserved. |
