what i dont seem to understand is why do some of prince's songs tie together the subject of sexuality and spirtuality. is it maybe because he was battling between singing " God's music and the devil music". what do u think? how is sexuality a spirtual thing that i cant seem to understand.

It has to do with the never ending battle of who we are and who we want to be. That's one of the things that always interested me about Prince growing up, his honesty.
Though it's a good album ,but not a favorite,the Batman soundtrack is a great example of the human flesh vs spiritual war in my eyes as were the Purple Rain and Lovesexy tours.

I always laugh when i hear that statement sexuality is spirituality in nature or somethin like that.... typical Gemini response ( im one myself ) 2 answer ur ques. i suppose its only " spiritual" when it's with ur husband/wife. Me personally, i dont connect the two in that way.I believe it is what it is and if ur a God-fearin person then u know how HE views all that so, come on now! Sex is Sex!! ~Tina

I think it's because he was human. Most of us want to do right on this earth and leave here and go to a better place. However, we are all sinners and have sexual urges. Prince was just being real, admitting it, and not trying to put on an act that he was a sinfree person like so many other so-called religious people do.

This is the very nature of life force (spiritual/sexual) energy. I do sense that P had this energy powerfully awakened in him at an early age, (if not from birth) and has been striving to balance it ever since. I believe he'll get there B. He's already come very close.

I think it's a fantastic example of how many mainstream man-made religions, have tried to make sex an un-Godly, or unnatural, act.

Prince's fusing of the sexual and spiritual, is nowhere near an original artistic statement, but I think it is put across extremely well in his music.

Whilst Prince might be playing out the seeming opposite of "God" and Sex - I think what these themes in his music really show (most likely unknowingly considering his long-held religious views?) is the worrying propaganda and social control of major religions, who have successfully made sex into a taboo subject.

I dunno if I'm explaining myself very well - but essential Prince has often played out, in his music, the unseeming duality of sex and religion - he's fused them, suggested one is enhanced by the other and such.

What I'm suggesting is that he's not fusing them as such, he's just inadvertently showing the hypocrasy of religion.

Sex, creates life - so it's impossible to deny that sex is a natural act - So to say sex and God are not linked at the most base point is to ignore this: that sex is used to create life, not only that, we are driven to have sex, because it is biologically encoded in us to feel good when doing it.

So, even outside procreation, sex feels good - not because we want it to, or socially we are told it will feel good - but because it is hardwired in us to feel that way.

Who hard-wired us? Well, if you're a Christian, it's that big ol' dude in the sky, or if not, it's mother nature, or the great collective consciousness, or, whatever or however you personally express what "God" is, whatever metaphor you like to use - It created us to enjoy and have sex.

I think this is what Prince has written about in his songs, it's just his views have always been very rooted in Christian guilt and dogma.

i personally think God wants to enjoy our sexual side, why else would he have given it to us. Also with in the Leather community good play envolves a deeper personal and spirtiual connection with the person that you are playing with.
