Akashic Records, whatever.

"If that is not this, then thus this jazz is in direct CONflict with the initial bass. The fish, not the instrument. Therefore it must be banished."

Y is this incomprehensible? It is about a girl with special needs who was in the same year as Prince at school. She was probably autistic and lived in her own little world.

How the HELL do we know she had "special needs"??...Which lyric exactly points to Cynthia Rose being a "special needs" child??...That's just shit Prince fans tried to figure out on their own...lol...for all we know, Cynthia Rose was just a cool kid...lol...

"Cynthia wore the prettiest dress, but different colored socks"??...well, when I was in high school, I had a classmate named Rick Hall who wore different colored shoes...lol...and he wasn't "specially abled", either...he was just a unique kid in that regard...lol

"She always stood in the back of the line, a smile beneath her nose..."....welp, there were a whole BUNCH of student who had "smiles beneath their noses" all the time...not cuz of special needs, but cuz of special weeds..lol..

"Cynthia wore a happy face, just like the one she'd draw...on every wall, of every school..."...That's not "special needs"...that's VANDALISM!!..lol...Since when was graffiti a sign of a "special needs" kid??...sheeeesh...

Or finally, maybe it's cuz of the chorus..."If you asked her what she had for breakfast, this is what she'd say...'Starfish and coffee, maple syrup and jam..butterscotch clouds, a tangerine, and a side order of hame...'"...You probably were thinking "Ok, that right there shows that Cynthia's mind was different from everyone else's, to give an answer like that...", right??...Well, guess what...in that same song, Prince says he and "Lucy" looked inside Cynthia's lunchbox, and SAW all that shit in there!!...lol...so it's obviously NOT simply the ramblings from the mind of a "special needs" kid...apparently that shit really existed if these two "normal" kids can see that shit just by poppin' open Cynthia Rose's lunch pail, right??...lol

But I still say it makes for a darn tasty snack...

Reason why fams think that Cynthia was - uniqely abled, is that Prince said so. At some q and a at NPGMC, I believe. Also, Sheila or Susannah or someone told Per Nilsen so for DMSR.

I love the song. Figure that Cynthia is some weird kid in someone's class that see and claim the most freaked out things to everyones amusement, but when the kids actually set their mind free, baby, and check it out themselves, they're able to get their funk on, too. Very hippie and naïvistic and princely and beautiful.

Plus I think Cynthia's name is inspired by the ladies in The Family Stone, which makes the song even more psychedelic and groovey, yeah.

I think "Shy" is incomprehensible. And Man in a Uniform. And, lawdy lawd, Ronnie, Talk To Russia. smile

Good question! Isn't it about, you know, the dream factory of stardom and the Evil's precence in today's pop music?

"The art you hoped to mirror life leaves blood upon the sill / The dream you keep dreaming is better than the life you lead"

"The head you thought was rollin' is now reason to be bored / The rapper that gave that head will thank his manager before the Lord"

Kinda heavy stuff, innit? And of course the everlasting:

"The most vital thing in pop is the epitome of doom / You wake up in a cold sweat cuz one of them's in your room / Singin' on the tele makin' more bucks than sense / So-called King gives birth to so-called Prince"

Wow. "And I say, who's gonna sing that to who? Cuz you sure ain't singin' it to me! And I sure ain't singin' it to you!"

there's absolutely no point 2 be got from that song, man. it's just a wet dream of a song, 4 the most part....it's still hot, nonetheless. as 4 incomprehensible songs, it's either that one line towards the end of "just as long as we're together"....the one after that "there ain't nothin betta" part....

Fascination is about in parts about drugs and another portion of the song is about fame&pop music. All nicely packed in a tune that -at 1st listen- just sounds like another lovesong.

I dig it. It's quite a fresh sounding song. Takes 'The Truth' album 2 another level.

I can't think of any Prince song that I'd describe as incomprehensible. Altho, I do find it incomprehensible that he put ORGASM on the Come album.

Makes absolutely NO sense 2 me 2 put a song like that on the album. Especially since the song is a mish mash of the guitarsolo that's on the "Controversy" album [can't remember what song it's from -ronnie talk 2 russia?????]
and the heavy breathing from "Vibrator".

It's silly and pretentious. Makes the album close on a toe-crinching note.

I'm sure that's one of the reasons loads of critics gunned the album down. That and the fact that the album doesn't have a catchy beginning nor a cool end.

It isn't until halfway through the track Come that U somehow find Urself stumbled in2 the album and then the closing of the album is a major turn-off.

Would've been sooooo much better had he opened the album with INTERACTIVE and then put something like STRAYS OF THE WORLD on it as the last song.

And why, 4 god's sake leave WHAT'S MY NAME? off the album?????

Sorry smile

I'm rambling again, totally off topic.

Having made a trip to the DTT, let me enlighten you, McClure. The song's really a piece of trademark Prince with an adolescence dirty mind like rest of For You and goes like this:

Up until the other day there remained an empty space within my bed
Then I took one look at you and naughty things that we could do danced within my head

Never have I ever made love before, never have I wanted to 'til now
Lover, can't you see I want you more and more?
Take me baby, yeah, I'm yours!

Ah, love me any way you want, but please love me now
I'll do anything you want, you're the teacher, show me how...

... and repeat chorus and do the guitar solo like you're Paul Stanley until fade. That's it!

Ummm, I really don't find any of the songs y'all listed as being "incomprehensible". Tambourine? obviously about masturbation. Ronnie Talk 2 Russia? Prince was telling then-president Reagan to iron out the differences with the Ruskies before it led to nuclear war. If I Was Your Girlfriend? Prince is stating that he wants to be as close as his lover's girlfriends are to her. Mountains? it's about the power of positive thinking. Kiss? You're joking, right?

A few questions about certain songs....

***"Do Me Baby"---How come, after he has his orgasm,he tells his lover "I'm so cold"? In the heat of passion, you should be sweaty hot!! smile

*** "Alphabet St"---Can someone please analyze this song for me? I like it on a musical level, but lyrically,it makes very little sense. What exactly is "Alphabet St" anyway?

***"Computer Blue"---Another song that I don't understand. What exactly is "the righteous one" and why will Prince be "computer blue" until he finds it?

Disdain4theunfunky,I know YOU can answer these questions:)
