It's just a little strip, but it makes them look more attractive, and any release that has one, that is being sold (2nd hand say, on eBay etc) that DOESN'T have it is worth less than one that does. As far as I know most Japanese CDs, whether they are remastered or not, sound better than any other cd, right ? I mean better than the US- or European version. Same with old vinyl records...to me they all had a different sound quality. US records sounded a bit louder, British vinyl a bit crisper, and German vinyl wasn´t as loud as American pressings but sounded a bit as if you had to turn up the volume a bit more. i have a couple of imports with OBIs...i usually just tuck 'em into the liner notes booklet or something. didn't know they were such a big whoop, collector-wise. i guess everything is in that world, though.

I wrote some like this on another music/audiophile forum : why do 2 of the greatest artist of the last 30 years (Bruce Springsteen and Prince) have such sub-par sounding CDs available. In many cases, those CDs were mastered almost 20 years ago . Why wouldn't these artists want their great works highlighted in the best possible audio light ? It could only help them, because we all know damn well that if WB said it had a "Prince Remastered" series or Sony offered a "Springsteen Remastered" set, all us fans would run out and buy them again, even if we had them already.
And I'm not even talking about Special Edition CDs here, with extra tracks or liner notes or anything like that. I mean simply taking the existing tapes, and re-doing the CDs. Mastering technology has jumped leaps and bounds in the last 15 years or so . I just want better SOUND #SOCIETYDEFINESU

What is keeping Prince's CDs from being remastered? I don't understand the politics and legal issues-- who decides what gets remastered, who pays for it, who owns the recordings, etc...???
Can anyone explain this to me?
