As a whole????
George Clinton.....nuff said.. Prince is just a follower comparing him to George... And he'll probably say the same thing..... But they sounded good together on "We Can Funk"... Clinton's lyrics were just deep at times... Be it Parliament or Funkadelic..... Plus George had all that talent in his organization...DAYUM!!! Bootsy, Maceo, Fred Wesley, Kush!!! Their from James Brown's camp.... Way too much talent in that band!!!.. yep!!! George.. [Edited 6/29/05 14:49pm] [Edited 6/29/05 14:51pm]

I disagree funkpill tis Prince all the way!
Far more varied in what he does, has written the better tunes and is easily the more skillful musician. if you've gotta pay for things that you've done wrong I've gotta big bill coming at the end of the day- Gil Scott Heron

as composers-tie, both have a great knack for melody and groove, george had more credited co-writer, but I think prince had just as many creative partners, they just weren't given the props like George's.
as a lyricist-george by a mile. He managed to create an entire countercultural allegory/mythology in his lyrics producer-george by far. I think Prince's production style is one of his weaknesses; the irony is that George, and many other funkateers of the 70s sound LESS dated compared to prince, I guess it's partially just because prince has the misfortune of having made music in the 80s, a decade whose production style I find to have aged poorly compared to other ages musician-considering I've never heard of george playing an instrument apart from some keyboards, gotta give this one to prince for obvious reasons. as an innovator/pioneer-definitely george. George is one of the three most important figures in funk, Prince is merely one of funk's greatest crossover prodigies in recent years. As a live performer-I call it a tie. I've never seen A P-funk show, but I've heard that in their prime they were probably among the greatest live acts EVER, and that NO ONE could work a crowd like George. As an individual though, Prince can do much more on stage than most frontman/bandleaders even if his acts as a whole isn't as cosmically great as the mothership landing. As a vocalist-Prince wins this one. George has relied on a lot of other singers. Prince has an incredible falsetto, a pretty good lower register a great shriek, and a good style that treads the line between the rock and soul styles of singing very well. Conclusion-.....I don't know, make your own

1st of all the comparison is not fair bcuz Clinton is 1 of P's idols just like Sly was P's idol and he took a lot of what Clinton and P-funk was about and applied it 2 his style. Now as far as a live performances it would depend on which era of Prince and George are we talkin. Late 70's early 80's it would b G.Clinton and P-Funk hands down. (And i'm talkin big arena shows and not small clubs.) Now from the Purple Rain Tour til 2005 Prince has dominated in the performance catagory. But in small clubs i would call it a tie depending on what version of the P-Funk allstars shows up. I've seen a couple of Clinton shows at small clubs in the late 90's that were classic and would rival some of P's bootleg classic small club gigs and might have surpassed them. As a lyricist they both r unique and 1 of a kind. I would call it a tie. Now when it comes 2 melodies i don't know anybody as melodic as P-Funk and i mean anybody!
Over all i would pick Prince bcuz he can mesmerize u with his playing and G.Clinton can't. But Prince needs 2 write them boys a check, but P gave them props by inducting them in2 the R&R H.O.F! U,ME,WE!....2FUNKY!

Can't happen - Prince wouldn't be able to stand all that thick, at a George/P-Funk concert: the young one would forget what to play...folks at George's last Sacramento concert will know of what I speak... but that's another topic altogether for another thread... All that smoke would be too intense for the new spritually aware Prince. ITs criminally hard, but I pick Prince because he is more capable of being commercial, and slides through different generes of music with ease like it aint nothin'. I don't know if George could pull off jazz and write songs for other artists successfully. Plus he dont look that good. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

So, I am pretty sure musically he could damn sure pull off anything.
