Do Raspberry Beret and Purple Rain tie in somewhere? Have you noticed that in Rasberry Beret Prince is talking about his first time which seems to have happened in a barn, and in Purple Rain he and Appollonia are in the barn too. Purple Rain is supposed to be semi-autobiographical so maybe this actually has some truth to it???

Prince has repeating themes throughout his music career.
IT's become more sporadic as of late, but for the span of his great 80's work, there are all sorts of self-referential things. It was really neat back then, but he never really tied them all together in the end to make anything of it. He almost did with the whole "welcome to the dawn/may U live to see the dawn" stuff.

Wasn't ATWIAD already recorded and ready to go before the Purple Rain tour even began? I remember hearing that somewhere.Maybe the song was written around the same time as he was developing the whole Purple Rain concept and the theme of 'doing it in a barn' just got recycled in Raspberry Beret. Maybe someone like Boris Fishpaw can clear this up (if there is more to this mystery!) [Edited 5/30/05 20:01pm] Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

By the time the music for the Purple Rain album had been completed, three songs ("Paisley Park", "Pop Life" and "Temptation") had also been recorded that would later appear on 'Around The World In A Day'. By the time the tour was launched in November 1984, most of the album's songs including 'Raspberry Beret' had been written and recorded, although 'The Ladder' was finally committed to tape towards the end of December during the Minneapolis leg of the tour. . ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Wasn´t Raspberry Beret written two years before it came out ?
And the character in the barn looks similar to the Kid in Purple Rain. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Exactly! so I always just assumed they were referenced from a personal experience so to answer your question I belive 'Yes'

Chanhassan, too. Any of you who went to the first celly or who live in Minne remember the farm across the highway from The Park? It was all gone the next year, making way for some highway expansion or something. Never trust anything spoken in the presence of an erection.
