Prince and Columbia?

I thought Prince signed to COLUMBIA records, and I just read that article about if he could a new record deal this year or not.

When RAVE came out, wasn't he on ARISTA?

Why does he always change record labels, when he has NPG record label? Can someone explain to me how that works?

He only uses Arista & Columbia etc. for distribution purposes. It's not a recording contract. That's why his label is still NPG Records.
