Prince didn't really play a grand piano on stage...

"On stage, Prince appears to be playing a grand piano. In fact, it’s a prop – a Yamaha KX88 master keyboard built into a piano shell with a strengthened top (so he can dance on it)."

Came across this blog featuring a link to a Rosie Gaines & Dr. Fink interview. Interesting read for those who may not already know particular tid-bits.

I find the fact that Prince didn't use sequencers as a means to record the synth parts to his albums to be soothing. It's nice to know he played the notes himself instead of letting a machine do all the work.

Yeah I heard about that. Had me fooled. I heard Prince wasn't too thrilled when Dr. Fink spilled the beans on that.

There are tons of sequenced stuff on Prince albums as well.

actually, he was suppposedly playing a real piano up until around lovesexy I think (It could have been earlier, maybe the purple rain tour?). The first time they didn't tell him when it was switched out to see what his unbiased reaction would be, and he loved it. I read this in 1988 0r 89 in an technical interview in some music production magazine.

Snap

Aren't grand pianos hard to stay tuned, especially with different climate changes and being moved around so much on tour. Doesn't surprise me.
