Anxiety

when i was in high school, the indianapolis public library's music section was my best friend. i discovered all kinds of crazy stuff that i might not have taken a chance on in a wrecka stow, where i'd have to spend what little money i made at my piddly part-time jobs.

now, i've lived in new york city and i now live in chicago, and i've spent a lot of time browsing around at the libraries in both cities. believe it or not, though, as far as the music collection is concerned at least, the indianapolis public library has 'em both beat, hands down.

or at least it did in the late '80s.

When I was a student (and obviously skint) I used to trawl through libraries all the time looking for albums - they were usually surprisingly uptodate.

Back then, you could get a tape out for something like 30p for 2 weeks, 6 albums max at a time - I'd buy a bulk load of blank tapes and record them before handing them back. Okay, not legal, but desperate measures... That supplied my music collection for a long time. The great thing is that you can try out albums you would never normally listen to.

Also they have books I am told.

A cool tip, you can search for specific albums on one of those library computers - if they don't have it at your branch but have it at another one, they can reserve it for you and have it sent through!

But yeah, since the internet, I've never been into a library since!

yes U can find B most everyday N the library~where correct American english is spoken and written=even tho' some urban novels will carry slang lol Been with the library about 2 years now & i'm here 2 tell U it is one of the Best uses of tax money i've ever known about...not only Prince's music but various books, magazine articles, et.al. Internet doesn't kill us=ya havta have a card 2 use it @ our library....there is also a thing called "Inter-Library Loan" that U can ask about if your library branch doesn't carry something U want they can order 2 come N...@ our libraries it costs $1.00 postage 2 bring N anything from around the world....so get N2 your local library kidz & C what the universe has 4 U....what U learn, no one can evva take from ya wink

....naturally this one wouldn't suggest or condone making any 'copy' of work ~if ya do it certainly ain't the 1st time its happened cool

I wanted to see the Canadian DVD release of "Sign of the Times" when it came out so I asked my public library (Hamilton, Ontario) to purchase it and they did! They even have a fair selection of Prince CDs as well which are available through inter library loan all of which can be put on hold using their online catalogue system and picked up at your local library location when it comes in.

My local libraries carry everything from Crystal Ball to For You.
Plus it's an excellent place for Prince sheet music.
