I have been listening to a lot of joni mitchell lately and (IMO) i hear a lot of her influence especially on "i love u but i dont trust u anymore". anybody esle see the same influence, and in which songs....discuss..

Reflection has a joni feel to it too.

A lot of the acoustic stuff on "Truth" has Joni written all over it. She did teach him a lot about 'space'.

i think Prince should cover One Tin Soldier.

I think a lot of Prince's piano playing (and piano-based songwriting) is influenced by Joni. The chords and voicings she uses, a kind of modal-pop approach.

Also, the use of irregular melodic lines - that is, melodies that follow no rhythmic pattern, that go over the barlines and doesn't repeat in the same way. Melodies that are strictly based on the flow of the lyrics.

Example:
"A case of you"
"Joy in repetition"

I may be wrong, but during that charity concert at 5th Ave.(the one where they used his Purple Rain 4 the album & features the Xtra verse & Wendy's 1st appearance),wasn't that "painting song" a Jodi Mitchell cover?
