i'm surprised that nobody's given the 1999 tour props.

I listed Controversy first and second would be 1999 tour. A lot of people on here, if they have seen P in concert, they were waaay to young to have seen P in 81-83. If they had seen him then, u would see a lot more posted for that time period. They're doing good to have even seen P in 88-89. P, by that time, had changed soooo much from his early tours.

Controversy - lil' mofo was jumping off speakers and swinging from scaffolding headbang

1999 - really started to come into his own as a performer.

SOTT - kick ass band

ONA - the soundchecks! the soundchecks!

Musicology - I danced until my old ass knees gave out. lol

Best tours are Parade, Musicology, Lovesexy, & ONA. I can narrow it down to two (Musicology & Lovesexy) but not one. wink

Is so hard for me to pin down that ONE tour so I will say the musicaly tightest live bands he has played with so far are the Controversy/1999 Revolution, SOTT/Lovesexy Nude Band and ONA/Musicology New Power Generation.

As always, the answer to this question is:

For musicianship: One Nite Alone

For theme/overall concert experience: Lovesexy

I thought Lovesexy was Princes best concert. (the t-bird on stage, swings, style, lights, splits, energy, love, sex, GOD, it had it all)
However, One Night Alone, brought out Prince as a down to earth mellow guy, that can jam.
Musicology combined both tours and was all class.

The Lovesexy, Purple Rain, and Musicology tours were his best IMO

'86 through '88 were sublime. Both bands were incredible, Prince was peaking as a singer, dancer, and musician and all-round stage performer. Each tour was an absolute joy, and although I've seen him many times since, enjoying every concert, no concert has come close to giving me as much pleasure as Parade, SOTT or Lovesexy.

i agree, but which is the alpha-male of those three tours?

Well, since you insist, I'll have to say that Lovesexy was my favourite. However, I didn't get to see SOTT as he cancelled it here in London, but from the film, and audio boots I have I'd say it was probably the best of the lot. In reality though I wouldn't choose between them.

LoveSexy was awesome on video, but when I saw it live, I was too far from the stage to really see much. Had to watch the big screen. The best show was the March 1993 Act I at George Mason Patriot Center - I was in the third row. biggrin
