Prince's last good record was....

I say Emancipation.

Flawed as it is, maybe too long, there was a hell of alot of effort in there. I think it was the last time he really tried.

His last good record was The Rainbow Children. To me, that was finally the record where he sounded "free" after all the talk. It's an interesting album because while it didn't have any hits, it's highly listenable--and the musicianship is unbelievable.

The follow up, Musicology, was a big let down by comparison. Aside from the title track, there's not one song on it I like, because everything sounded like something else he did before. It's dull!

Huge co-sign. Great Prince CD... short, sweet and uncompromising.

I would say that was the last "great" album. But Gold, D&P and Emancipation are in the "good" camp. Gold even could be "very good". Not sure how I feel about

I thought "Musicology" was good. It wasn't "great" but it was "good". I consider his last "great" album to be "Purple Rain".

the rainbow children is masterpiece.
news and xpectations are also very nice.

emancipation is one dull boring mehanic beats record.
to me rainbow children sounds like more natural progression then emancipation.

i mean emancipation have some great songs but production is so generic,plAStic.
it sounds like im listening to r kelly.

rainbow children have great flow, very nice songs, great arangmants ,excelent musicianship and out of this world production.

His last great/good record was motherfucking the "Prince" album. Everything he has released since is SHIT.

Yes, I am trying to ruin this thread on purpose. It's a stupid thread anyway.

Musicology is a fine performance. However, "Dear Mr. Man" and "What Do you Want Me to Do?" are just as good.

However and going forward, although my selection is sort-of commercial but for me, Prince's last great and chart-topping song was, "Most Beautiful Girl In The World." and his last great rock song was "Cream."

You're a double-drag fool! I'm going to another life -- how about u... cool

Hell I envy you. I wish I could personally find Musicology to be great.
