To the freaks up above stating that prince's last good record was sott or purple rain, id like to ask u a question, what the hell are u still hangin round here for, those records came out 20 years ago! This has been a great decade for prince The Rainbow Children, One Nite Alone, Musicology all stand up with his greatest works and The Rainbow Children is truly his best album instrumentally. I think if prince has released Diamonds, Symbol, Gold, Emancipation, Rave, TRC, One Nite Alone, ONAL and Musicology peoples opinion of him post 1990 would have greatly improved. Instead we get a pile of semi-good albums like come, chaos, nps, exodus, the vault, xpectation and news which although cool for the hardcore, kinda diluted his run of great albums and ruined his image.

disbelief Another one of those "love it or leave it" type people.

I think almost everyone that listed older albums made it clear, the difference between "good" and "great". There is definately a difference. Most people that absolutely couldn't stand any Prince music for those many years, probably wouldn't be here now.

I consider "Purple Rain", Prince's last "great" album but I do enjoy most every album that came after it. Even if I couldn't stand any of them and stopped listening to him, I still would deserve the right to be here because the love I had of his music from back in the day would have drawn me to this site.

Yeah, really. I don't see how considering five of Prince's albums to be great and many more good makes you not a fan.

Some ppl here just can't accept that not everyone considers Lovesexy or Sign 'O' The Times to be a masterpiece.

With Purple Rain being his best, SOTT is his last great album. His last good album is Musicology. His last very good album I would say is TRC.... and so on.

How? TGE, The Rainbow Children, Musicology, prince, Emancipation, Crystal Ball...come on, these are "great" albums also. I certainly wouldn't say that Lovesexy was the "LAST" great album.

Musicology is a fine performance. However, "Dear Mr. Man" and "What Do you Want Me to Do?" are just as good.

However and going forward, although my selection is sort-of commercial but for me, Prince's last great and chart-topping song was, "Most Beautiful Girl In The World." and his last great rock song was "Cream."

You're a double-drag fool! I'm going to another life -- how about u... cool
[Edited 5/4/05 21:13pm]

So many of you are praising the music on The Rainbow Children CD...Thusly, I'm gonna grab my bass guitar, replay both: The Rave and The Rainbow Children once more as I may have missed brilliance of Prince's musical endeavor.

cool

I say Emancipation.

Flawed as it is, maybe too long, there was a hell of alot of effort in there. I think it was the last time he really tried.

The Black Album...

Emancipation sucked.
