Prince and The Revolution '85 concert video or Sign 'O The Times? Which of these two concerts do you like watching the most? While SOTT is great, I prefer the pure, raw energy of the '85 show. Whenever I play SOTT to people, I always hope they don't notice the voice overs, but they'll always say, "He's lip-syncing."

SOTT is way better! The voice over & all that came from when it was filmed the DP's were to far away and they had to reshoot allot of it at Paisley Park.
I do like the P&R 1985.. but it is way to glossy. I cant sit through the whole thing I can really only watch a few things on that concert ( GOD Piano Performance & the 18 Minute version of Purple Rain) I am actually watching SOTT right now. funny to see this topic at the same moment.

I love them both, and I'm generally a Revolution whore. But I gotta go with SOTT if I have to choose. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

Almost every concert video with The Revolution is the better choice.

SOTT, even though it was mainly a re-shoot, its just more exciting and the music is better. The '85 vid is REALLY dated and it drags in points. I often find myself skipping through the vid to get to the actual performances. Moreover, the band didn't capture the music that well for me. Wendy's guitar solos on Little Red Corvette, Darling Nikki and When Doves Cry are mediocre at best; and Bobby Z's drumming/triggering the beat machine just doesn't cut it. By 1987 Prince's live shows had become legendary and they reflected his growth. Furthermore, the SOTT/Lovesexy bands were sooo much better than the Revolution in the live setting(especially the 1985 incarnation of the Revolution). Sheila E.'s drum solo during Now's the Time alone is worth the price of the DVD, yet she kills EVERY song they perform. Levi and Bonnie Boyer deserve honorable mention as well because they laid it down on their respective instruments. The stage themes, the choreography, the costumes, quality of material etc., trump everything on the '85 vid. [Edited 5/1/05 22:23pm]

I like the 85 concert! If I had not been only 5 years old I would have been there!!!
I love the see through ass black outfit...I love the part when he turns around to show off his ass! I love the part when he knocks over the stool and a stage man, picks it up and then Prince knocks it over again. t you to frogive me. or even believe me. But I am truly sorry. What I said was out of character for me. Even if this is "just the internet"

SOTT, without a doubt. It may be lip-synched and overdubbed, but it's basically (almost) a re-creation of what the tour was anyway. And the PR show, as good as it was, had some dragging points, despite the high energy. And that When Doves Cry video mirror effect bugs the hell outta me every time I see this concert.

i like them both.
85 was the first one i ever bought so it will always hold a special place. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I'm sure you know this, but you can find them real cheap either on Amazon or Ebay. Usually around $10. But it does need to be released on DVD, with a ton of extras.

Thank God The Revolution was televised! Sure, it drags in spots, but you just can't beat the reign of the Rain.

It's a bootleg, though I'm not sure if it was sourced from Laserdisc or VHS (or even Beta for that matter). Can anyone vouch for quality/source on this? Anyone? I've been thinking of picking it up if it's decent. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
