The "One Night Alone" piano cd is wonderful!

I'm a longtime Prince fan who hasn't gotten around to listening to some of the more recent 'side' albums, like Xpectation or the "One Night Alone" piano music. But I just purchased "ONA", and I'm listening to it for the first time on this rainy day.

It's lovely. Lyrically it doesn't do much for me yet, but oh how nice it sounds. It's so nice to have an entire album of Prince playing beautiful piano.

I sort of wish his acoustic album, "The Truth" had more memorable songs, and as I listen to ONA I sort of get the same feeling--- but I wouldn't hesitate to put this on to chill on a day like this, or even a dinner party with candles, etc.

What do you guys think?

Wow---the last song, Arboretum, is one of the lovliest things I think I've ever heard him do.

Beautiful. Our man is so talented.

At the time of it's release, it's impact was clouded by the fact that loyal NPGMC members had already paid for half of it from the first year of the Club. There was a sense that we were paying twice for the same product. So there was an element of apathy towards it at the time of it's CD release.

But as a collection of songs, it's beautiful.

The title track is a delight and the whole album flows beautifully with only two exceptions, in my opinion.

Avalanche attempts to throw in political controversy and lyrically doesn't fit in with the general, relaxed vibe of the rest of the album. It's also not particularly melodic and the rest of the album puts melody at the forefront.

And as much as I like Pearls B4 The Swine, it's clear that it's from another project and there's something about the actual recording that sounds like it was inserted quite crudely into the flow of One Nite Alone.

But these are minor flaws.

One Nite Alone is unique amongst Prince albums and in my opinion should be respected for that. It falls into the same category as Dirty Mind, ATWIAD, Lovesexy, TRC and NEWS. i.e. albums that go against the grain of what's expected, no matter how much we love/loathe them.

And Arboretum speaks to me in a way that no lyrics ever could.

I love it, I really do.

It's the perfect album for staying up all night, staring at the stars and contemplating everything big and small.

Love the melodicism of it, love the stripped down feel to it, love the melancholy atmosphere all throughout it.

Avalanche is a total classic and Arboretum is one of the most beautiful pieces of instrumental music I've ever heard in my whole life.
