N.E.W.S. or Musicology This is a question I'm not sure many of you would have expected to see:

Apples and oranges here. I do like NEWS, esp the beginnig of "west" where it sounds like "call my name." But for "A Million Days" and "If Eye Was The Man...," it'll take Musicolgy. | |

i like both pretty much equally, and kinda for the same reason. i'm not really too hot about the parts, but taken as a whole, i think both are really top notch prince albums. i still haven't figured out quite how that is...  | |

"Musicology" by far. I'm glad a friend burned me a copy of "NEWS" (I didn't even know it was out at the time) because I would have been pissed if I had spent money on that album after I heard it. [Edited 4/26/05 22:20pm] Andy is a four letter word. | |

Musicology was a good but not great album that probably won't age very well but definitely served its purpose of extracting P's head from his rectum.
N.E.W.S. is meaningless noise...it's not as terrible as New Power Soul or Chaos but rather it is extremely blah. It does not surprise, enthrall, or invigorate. It seems earnest in it's intentions but that doesn't make it any less disappointing. Winner: Musicology All good things they say never last... | |

Pretty hard to compare an instrumental/experimental album with an album aimed at a mass audience.Like both albums but you've gotta go for MUSICOLOGY coz its far more listenable and easy on the ears  | |

Hmmm...I guess I tend to go for the albums where Prince plays for himself, like TRC and NEWS. I like Musicology, but for me, the more listenable album is NEWS. | |

Kind of a strange comparison.
Musicology wins for not sucking nearly as much as SNOOZE. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

When I listen to Musicology, I tend to think 'Come on guy, you know you can do better.' When I listen to N.E.W.S, I hear some musicians enjoying themselves and staying tuned. To me N.E.W.S is far less pretentious than Musicology.  | |
