you seriously never heard the purple medley? it was a single that was released in the early/mid '90s where he re-recorded a bunch of his old songs into a big medley, but it sounded really chintzy and vegas-y so it's not as cool an idea as it might sound...though there's a fairly kinda okay b-sides medley on the maxi single version.

In this case, as stated above, the song is an official release from 15 years ago, but even if it was unreleased, you can bet your sweet fanny that if you downloaded it from the net, or got it from a bootleg, then thousands upon thousands of other people will have it to.

Although Prince has done a song called Sex, the song you describe doesn't sound that song to me. You would be able to recognise it because Prince says 'sex' a lot in it. Also I can't say it has a Native American sound or Bohemian guitar - are there any lyrics? They are usually a giveaway. Mp3 files, especially from p2p servers, are often mis-labelled.

This hasn't been mentioned before, but my only recollection of another Prince song that might have carried the tentative title of "Sex" was through an article in a British publication called Number One, a weekly competitor of Smash Hits.

The article itself was an interview with a then aspiring chanteuse going by the name of Ashe, who bears a striking resemblance to Vanity. The article was two pages long and carried colour photos of said songstress, as well a sideway shot of P during the infamous BPI fiasco.

The gist of the interview was Ashe's meeting with Prince, and how she had contributed to a line in "Oliver's House" ("Oliver likes to drive in open top convertibles" - that's the quote), an amusing tale of how Chick Huntsberry was a constant presence whenever she was around Prince, as well as an anecdote revolving around how she accidentally smeared ice cream over Prince's suit. P's response was: "Next time we meet it will still be there", referring to the stain on his garment.

Curiously, she then mentions a track Prince appeared to be working on at the time (1985), and the title was "Sex". Her verdict was that the song was "very rude".

Has anybody else come across said article? What I quoted above has been from memory only.

Apart from that the song was later also give by Prince to a dutch group called "Lois Lane" who rerecorded it for their album "Precious". That album has also got the Prince track "qualified" on it.

I think there is also a fake track circulating on the filesharing programs that is titled "Sex". Think I might have even downloaded that one accidentally back in the day.

On the other hand, the Sabotage outtakes list mentions a track called "Sex" from the early 90s as well (which I suppose would refer to either a different version of the released B-side, or an entirely different song - perhaps mistitled by the bootleggers).

The description you gave of the song is kinda throwing me, here's the lyrics to Sex - if the track you have doesn't match them, you have a mislabelled song:

But also in the first part of the song, you hear the xylophone-type instrument playing like in the beginning of Batdance, and in the second verse, i think, they yell out "SO BE WILD!!" which also sounds Prince-ish to me. I really can't make out the lyrics though..But in the second part they say something like "When summer(or someone..)gets to me, and sets my soul on fire, my body is an ocean.." then after that, idk, but they keep yelling out "SEX!!" until the third part and then they're singing "AWEEMAWAY" you, "in the jungle, the might y jungle the lion sleeps tonight.." but the don't say that. That's all i can get from it.
