I have been listening to this album all week and I must admit it is Prince's most personal and spritual record. But anyways, I have recently read most of the chapters in the book, Purple Reign and it says that in the Lovesexy era, Prince said that Lovesexy was one of those albums that was easy to make, but people including his fans who brought the album gave him letters saying that Lovesexy just changed their whole life, just like Marvin Gaye's What's Going On did. What did Lovesexy do for you, because although Lovesexy is not my favorite Prince album by far, some of the songs on there have motivated me in some way.

I think you had to've been there. It was such an exciting joyful time full of love and happiness. Made us feel good, with a purpose. Made us rethink why we do what we do.

If an album is truly great, it'll touch you no matter when it was released. Greatness is timeless.

I get incredibly touched and inspired by albums like Purple Rain, and I was born in '85.

At first I was blown away by the album, but now, a year later, I find it to be cluttered, messy, unfocused, and generally unexceptional (save for Glam Slam and the title track... I still love those songs).

It's still a good album, it just doesn't contain anything I'd call his best work, except for the title track.

come on its way better than you make it out to be....while I dont think of it as a classic "must have" Prince cd, its on that next level (Controversy, AWTIAD)...Anna Stesia, I wish you heaven, Alphabet St are great tracks...

in terms of message I'll take Lovesexy over TRC anyday...i still get chills when i hear "rain is wet, sugar is sweet" and "...the reason why my voice is so clear, cause theres no smack in my brain"

THIS ALBUM DOES NOTHING FOR ME. THE ONLY SONG I CARE FOR IS ANNA STESIA.

I like some of the tracks on here like "Anna Stesia", "Glam Slam", "I Wish U Heaven", & "Alphabet St. The rest is just cluttered to me.

on a whole, it blew my friggin mind, it did that thing 2 my heart! and made me aspire even more to b able 2 oneday make music that just does that thing 2 ya heart (yall know what i mean)

eye no - introduced me 2 ingrid and had me spirming/laughin the whole time
alphabet st did the same thang (especially cats rap)
glam slam - just did that thing 2 my heart
anna stesia - wow, this song did so much. it had me near tears, it had me squirming, it did that thing 2 my heart, i mean the best way to explain what it did to me was that it made me catch the purple ghost lol..on a deeper level it made me a bit sad cuz it described how i feel @times and it also made me want even more to get closer to God (which in turn is part of y i ask a billion questions)

lovesexy makes me laugh my ass off especially when camille makes her cameo
i wish u heaven and when 2 r n love make me melt, they're so pretty
positivity don't do much

It got me through the summer of '88, going into my senior year of high school. Great album and great memories. I wish I could've seen that tour. Wow!

This is an album that really made you think.It's not your typical late-80s pop album.This album had a purpose....a mission.

I bought Lovesexy on vinyl way back in 1992 and I still love it since the first listening! I mean if U are a true fan of Prince's music then U must love this classic album!

I do believe that for Lovesexy to have the impact it had on me you had to have been on the journey leading up to it. Lovesexy for me was the destination. As an album on it's own and going back to it as a "new" fan it can't have the same impact. That said I love that people pick up on it years later. Lovesexy is hard to explain to anyone that doesn't feel it, doesn't get it etc.

Lovesxy changed my life in the way I saw God, Love and the way I live my life. To me it just made sense and provided me with all the answers I sought. And even though this may sound strange and not come out quite the way I intend it. If any other artist had produced Lovesexy in the same way that Prince did it may have had just such an impact.

I see your what you're saying, but Snap does have a point here. 1988 was a special year to be a Prince fan. There was a great feeling in the air around his work. Following on from SOTT, the bootleg of The Black Album, the Lovesexy album and tour (and the SOTT concert film) had a great vibe going. It was just a lot of fun to be into Prince at the time. The album isn't one of my big favourites to be honest, but 1988 was my favourite year as a Prince fan. I have very vivid memories of buying the album and the bus-ride home, listening to it (and thinking 'what the fuck?' for about the 4th year in a row), queueing to buy tickets for the Wembley shows, and then the night of the concert itself, reading the tour programme and realising what Lovesexy was about, and then the show, which for me has never been topped. Maybe you didn't have to be there, but I'm sure glad I was.

I may not have been there back when it was released, but I've listened to every song and none of them truly stand out to me though "Alphabet St." is catchy, "Anna Stesia" has some nice interlocking melodies, and "Lovesexy" towards the end is hilarious.

"Glam Slam" sounds like something I'd hear on a kids' Saturday morning science show.

Well, I wouldn't say it changed my life...but it helped in me realising that spirtualty and a love of god were not cheesy/cornballish/something to be embarrassed about....I like the songs...it makes me feel happy listing to it...btw I LOVE your advatar!

The album itself didn't do a whole lot for me. It was just another interesting album from Prince. I like the lyrics quite a bit, but the music at this point can sometimes sound very dated. Sorry, no life-altering experience here.
