My first Prince album was TGE. I don't remember how I obtained it, but when I listened to it for the first time, I was at my friend Kari's house. I had spent the night and was lying on the floor. It was six or seven in the morning and everyone was asleep. What I experienced from that album on the first listen was so strong, I grabbed up my things, threw them back in my backpack, and snuck out, pedaling my bike as fast as I could get home so I could listen to it over and over again. I think I was 13 or 14. If wouldn't have gotten that album, it would have all been different for me. I wouldn't be here now, lame on a Sunday morning, typing this to strangers. Oh shit, my hat done fell off

Not to mention it's a beautiful song.
[Edited 4/22/05 8:07am] Aren't you speaking of "Betcha By Golly Wow" with Dominique Dawes being in it? It's been a VERY long time since I've seen the TMBGITW video, but I don't remember her in that one.

Difficult question to answer. I'll never forget hearing SOTT for the first time on the radio and thinking it was the best thing I'd ever heard. Hearing 7 performed live at Wembley Stadium with countless thousands singing the whole song along with him, projecting up into the summer sky (incidentally my Mum's first ever rock concert, and a moment she mentions whenever I play the song around her)
However, I guess the strongest personal memory would have to be When Doves Cry. I left my father's home in ' 83 aged 12 and then my mother's in '87 aged 16, and that song just sountracked perfectly the difficulties I was having with my parents throughout that period. It was also the song that made me an out and out Prince fan and is to this day one of my absolute favourite songs (Yes, I know I lose cool points for liking a hit record - egad, I'm shocked!)
