I've always thought Dirty Mind was just a real recording. But after reading about the album 4 years ago, it's a demo. I'm listening to the album right now, and I'm wondering what Dirty Mind would've sounded if it wasn't a demo recording because even though the production is dirty and raw, I've always thought that there was something Prince buried in the mix. What do you guys think Dirty Mind would've sounded if it wasn't a demo recording? Would it be considered his first "true" pop recording?

I think it wouldv'e leaned more to the commercial side and would then have lost a bit of it's magic.

THE only instrument that was left out of the demo recording was a piano (something that Prince did add for the Controversy album).
