I dunno, after hearing about how synth-oriented "For You" *supposedly* is and how Emancipation, well, sucks I've been delaying my first listening of them. I really am not excited about hearing it. Well, besides Soft And Wet.

Are "For You" and "Emancipation" good albums?

I should be getting New Power Soul today... I'm actually excited about that one (Wondering if it's truly as dreadful as it's made about to be.

Recently bought the Symbol, Controversy, Lovesexy, and Diamonds And Pearls. I have yet to be disappointed!

My collection is almost complete!

For You's a nice album; unfairly slated by the critics.

Emancipation is really hit and miss. For me, it's largely miss, but there are a handful of great tracks.

New Power Soul is poor, bar two or three tracks, to be honest. But it does include 2 tracks which really show P at his best - Wasted Kisses (the hidden track) and Come On.

All just my opinion, o'course.

Just listened to For You. Wow, it's a damn good classic. And here I thought it would be bad! Um, I took Emancipation out of my CD Player after "Jam Of The Year"... Jesus, that song's godawful.

If I were you I would skip disc 1 and start with disc 2 or 3
There are some great tracks on those two
(Joint2Joint, Sex in the Summer, The Human Body, Sleep Aroud, Face Down, Emale,etc.)

but I personally only listen to disc 1 when Im having trouble falling asleep

Emancipation could have been released merely as its second album, as far as I'm concerned. I think all of the important stuff is there, pretty much.

Emancipation isnt bad at all. But I do agree with Heiress the second is the best IMO.
It has most of my fav Emancipation songs it.

For You is absoltely adorable, just like Prince(the album). Those really sound like he is young and shy but a wee bit crazy in this music-performing twist. I love the sweet use of falsetto in both of them. My favourite from For You is In Love, just one of those songs that always make you feel cheerful.

I haven't still gotten much into Emancipation, unfortunately. It's just so big! I should be somewhere away from all my other albums for a week, I'm sure I'd be a lot more familiar with those songs then!

For You is great record to listen to still. You have to keep in perspective that it is 1979...For You the song is flawless. My other favorites are Crazy You, he could release that today and people would go crazy, not the same could be said for "Satisfied." Of course "Soft and Wet" and my other jam is "I'm Yours" It;s SO 70's but I love it! Emancipation, by far is one of Prince's low points. You could squeeze one good album out of the three. I have yet to get around to doing that, his mistake, Kirky J. It's not Prince with someone else producing. New Power Soul is the absolute bottom of the barrel. Like someone else said, with the exception of "Come On" and "Waisted Kisses", if those tracks weren't on there I would have totally given up on Prince. They let you know that he still had it but wasnt using it...

Give 'For You' some time - a lot of fans don't like it a whole lot after years of having it, but then, they never give it much of a chance after that initial purchase. Always the 'poor cousin' of the Prince album - but it's one of my favourite P. records, I find it a bit more interesting than 'Prince' these days.
