I'm not sure I could pick one musical style. He's never limited himself to one style before, not even on concept albums like TRC and NEWS, so to do it now would be pretty odd, even for him.
But if I had any say in it (which I don't) here's what I'd like for the next album: -Something really hard and guitar driven. Guitar solos never fail to impress me. 
-Something sharp and quirky and/or psychedelic -Something funky -Folky something. A duet with Joni Mitchell, perhaps? -He needs to dust off the synthesizer. -SEX -A good mix of dark lyrics and happier lyrics. -Nothing too sappy. You're in love, Prince. We get it. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!" | |

Whatever it is, I do not want the "organic old school soul/funk with a real band" sound he has lately adopted. It has gone on too long... "Satisfied" kind of scared me...
I want some funky syth stuff (just listened to the intro of DMSR, something like that), some spare beats, some funky guitar. Also, not too many slow jams please |

How did I miss this. Anyways; I would hope primarily that he ditched the overtly-slick/computerised/near-clinical production that has let down much of his work since as far back as Diamonds & Pearls. Don't get me wrong I love a lot of the work he has released in that period but the production is so OTT. I'd like to hear Prince go off on another tangent altogether and do something as shockingly different as NEWS - but, and its a big but, make it work as a whole. I really like patches of NEWS but as a body it's nowhere near as fulfilling as some of his earlier stuff. That said if Prince was to return to a style, I'd like to see a straight up pop/rock guitar LP along the lines of songs like Mountains/Corvette/Sunshine/Place of Your Man/etc. Let's face it though; the man's got ideas oozing from every orrifice and I'm sure each of us will find something enjoyable in whatever comes up next.
