I listen to Musicology very often. I THINK it's a good CD, it has stuff for the general masses & us hardcore fans. Funny how fans put it down. We all know it wasn't Prince's greatest album, but it is by far a milestone 4 him that made Warners go " hhhmmmm we didn't think he had it in him to do this ever again ". I just wish 4 the days of good extented jams that were released as singles, because to many of the songs that I love on this album were 2 damn short. And what ever happened to the Musicology Concert DVD....sometimes u gotta strike when it's hot.
Don't u want to come , 3121. It's gonna be so much fun, 3121. That's where the party be, 3121. Y'all can come if u want to, but u can never leave!

I listened to it a fortnight back , for the 1st time in maybe 5 or 6 months , my opinion hasnt changed , its an OK album , pretty much every track is good , but just good , there no outstanding or even excellent tracks on there to look forward to , and as such that makes its one of Prince's weakest albums to date.

I'm happy for Prince that it was a hit, and got alot of new fans, but it's dull for a Prince album.

Dull for a Prince album?? You just described most of the 90's releases then lol

I still listen to Musicology a lot and love it. It's just what I needed after the deep message of TRC.

The 90s albums (Come, Gold, Chaos & Disorder, even Rave) are anything but dull, they were wild, didn't play it safe. Musicology is really just a soul album. There is no real raw funk and killer rock on it. Nothing on Musicology is as powerful as The Rainbow Children: 1+1+1=3, Family Name, the Last December.
Goodnight, sweet Prince.

It was all about the tour vibe for me, so I'm not really feeling it.

That said, this isn't the way it usually goes with his stuff, so I have to say that the album, as most people here agree, is not remarkable. I'm always Prince-thirsty, so I'm thrilled anytime he drops a new record.

i have 2 say that when i came home from the concert it was in the wee hrs of the morn but i could not wait to put it in! i think i was so dehydrated that i listened 2 it everyday! Life O the party i tend to skip over shrug. Lately though i have been listening 2 alot of old stuff that never ceases to pull me in. Every one wants both the same thing and something else totally different from Prince. He put it out there. Some fams like it, while some, not so much. I love it and can't wait for the next round.

As a longtime Prince fan, I was incredibly disappointed in Musicology. I never want to listen to this album. Aside from the opening track, it is dull dull dull. The man's a genius but it's a very bland and weak album by his standards. Everything on it sounds rehashed, like songs he'd already done many times before, only he did it BETTER before. It was a disappointment after the genius album that was "The Rainbow Children." The critics were WRONG about this album being so good--- any of his 90's releases were much much better than this. And you know it!

I still like it, but I haven't listened to any P in months. I listened to too much P in 2004 so I am taking an extended break.

I think the album served it's purpose.
I also think that "Reflection" is an instant classic.

I love Musicology. I know lot of his fans have always complained about it being one of his weakest CD’s. I guest because its R&B oriented. I love the fact that P was successful in getting his music out with great success. Most importantly, I love the fact I can play the whole CD without skipping 2 another song. Each song on Musicology is enjoyable and yes I still play it. lol

"I wanted to bring back what music was all about"... haha, that's cute, Prince. lol Honestly, I love the little guy, and this CD really does have some nice funk confections, a couple of high-quality hooks, and the movingly mature, introspective piece that is "Reflection", but overall it hardly strays from safe and low-carb (by the way, I don't actually own it, but I've heard all the tracks in order multiple times courtesy of Limewire and never once has anything jumped out and exhilarated me).

Hopefully his next official release will be better. I realize the man's not perfect by any means by after an 18/17-year run of utter spottiness (from what I can certainly determine.. okay, in my personal opinion, anyway) the least he can do is come out with something solid sometime soon.

Exactly. I was one of those ppl too.

I remember when you started that thread where you said Musicology was boring as hell, and I just didn't see where you were coming from.

I still enjoy a few songs on it enough to see it as average, but it really is mostly boring.

It was the Hits tour that made ppl look at Musicology more fondly.

Hmm, I don't think I have listened the album more than three times after the first two days. I think it's too "oldschool" in a way. I'm hoping I'll get into it someday, but I also know it isn't going to happen soon. First on my "getting into" list are Emancipation and Black album, so....

The title track was so promising, I was kind of happy, this song sounds like the critics said. Then coma, pimp - hm, why not?, then - nothing, then Cinnamon Girl - this is really bad and boring, even his voice. At the end a little bit couch - funny, o.k. and Dear Mr. Man - blues, o.k.
Three songs - insufficient!!

I will always buy Prince's albums, I owe it to the guy. Musicology is a bit of a disappointment for me. There are some good songs on it, but overall it's a very regular album. I dug Rainbow Children much better.

Overall it's good, but the whole album is kinda monochromatic, mood-wise. Nothing really stand out that much. I listen to it every once in a while, but it's not a favourite of mine.
