Must agree! He even included it as part of his Muppet's stint but left it on the shelf to gather dust. It's a beautiful song and should have been given greater care than being deferred to the "Crystal Ball" project

Is it just me or does MOVIE STAR sound nothing like 1986? [Edited 4/23/05 15:36pm] Starrfighter

It's a beautiful song and should have been given greater care than being deferred to the "Crystal Ball" project Chances are "She Gave Her Angels" would have been a track on an album of children's songs Prince and Mayte had planned to release around the time they were expecting their 1st child , hence him appearing on The Muppets singing it. When things went tragically wrong with their child (see the newbies FAQ for detials) the whole Childrens album idea was shelved more than likely , but "She Gave Her Angels" was released eventually on Crystal Ball . [Edited 4/23/05 15:36pm] Nah, it definitely sounds like something from that time. Not to say that it sounds "dated", but it just does sound like something from that period of his vast and almost endless creativity in 1984-1986.

Co-sign. This song definitely should've been on Disc II. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

[Edited 4/23/05 15:36pm] Thank you! I suspect this has been a big misconception for a very long time, since the track was slated for inclusion on one configuration of The Dream Factory in 1986. The track contains sounds and instruments that clearly predate that period and (just my opinion, of course) it sounds like it was recorded around the time of the "Around the World in a Day" recordings. Lyrically, it references a movie, which most likely meant "Purple Rain", since the booklet states it was written for The Time and they were a non-existant band after Purple Rain. So why would it be written for them in 1985 or 1986? Also, the instruments used - the Linn Drum side stick (featured in "Let's Go Crazy" among other tracks) and the 'flutey' sounding high synth (featured in the opening of "Condition of the Heart") reflect his arrangement choices from 1984, not 1986. I suspect someday in the future we will learn this was actually recorded waaay before Dream Factory was even an idea. It may have been worked on for that project, but that doesn't mean its creation was at the same time.
