i remember when i first got the video Gett off.
My dad came in from the garden and started to watch the Violet video with me.
Half way through it he shouted at me "do you know what this video is about"
and i'm talking a really angry voice here.I was like "not really".
2 minutes passed and he says(really angry now)"do you really not know what its about"
and with that he stood up and walked out into the garden again.

I just thought about this....Prince is the kind of fellow who tries to combine the carnal with the spiritual in his music....

Being a Prince fan for almost 20 years, i think Prince is a fellow with a dark, troubled soul trying to find relieve and enlightement trough music.... A short, shy guy with a troubled childhood trying to overwin his demons and find peace of mind.....

When you listen to his records from 1978 to 2004 you hear an artist not only in war with expectations, society around him, but in the first place an artist trying to get his mind and soul together....

For us, as fans, thats sometimes rewarding, and at other times..well....its not. Prince is the kind of artist who 'breathes' trough his music.....and that means after all the critical acclaim for Sign of the Times, you get a dark, creepy album like the Black Album, Prince excusing himselve for that dive into darkness with Lovesexy. It also means after some uninspired, laborated record like New Power Soul, you get some ambitious, 'selfdefining' record like Rainbow Children....I mean to say: the kind of record Prince releases tells alot about his state of mind, his view of life at that moment.

The way Prince 'uses' his music is always very selfreferential, its his way to express himselve in the first place, i think..... The fact that does lead to mediocre records sometimes, very unhealthy lyrics at the other time is part of the kind of musician he is....

To circle back to the title of this thread: Prince is a creepy fellow at some times, because he's exposing himselve trough music in the first place....That can be very intruiging at some times, and annoying at other times, but, he may not be the brightest person, not the most intelligent person, not the most visionary, but in the end Prince is a very honest musician who expresses himselve trough his work... That keeps me interested in this "old squiglyhead", i think

And although Prince didn't technically, actually sing it (Sheena Easton did), I always thought "101" was a rather creepy song. I would love to hear Prince sing that song himself.

i LOVE me some Shockadelica, but that fucking Camille voice is CREEPY. First time i heard Rock Hard in a blah blah blah ya'll know the song, i was thinking "WTF!?!"
