While I have no problem with Kevin Smith not wanting to work for free and having a not too favorable opinion on TRC. I find that Kevin can be just as smug and self righteous as Prince. I've seen some of Kevin's dvd's and watched the extras and he just comes off as a know it all asshole. I never saw Jersey Girl, but I did see Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy and Dogma. And the latter two movies come off very preachy. And while it wasn't in a religious zelot way it was just as obnoxious when the overriding concept of those two movies is 'this is my opinion and this is why I'm right and everybody else is wrong.' And while there were some really funny parts there were parts where the I felt his view point was being relentlessly shoved upon me.

Your opinion's your opinion, but you are comparing apples to oranges. Instead of apologizing and maybe offering to pay the man, Prince was a real dick about it and dissed Kev's movie - his creativity if you will - when he should know better, seeing as how he considers his songs his 'children'.

I'm as big a fan as any of y'all, but what's right is right and P went left on that one. Waaaay left.

Rockability

After watching the Kevin Smith video, I get the impression that Prince loved Dogma because JWs have a thing particularly against Catholics. Prince probably laughed his ass off.

However, Kevin might have brought him down to earth while he was there to a certain level, and at the same time Smith was fighting getting brainwashed. Overworked, tough conditions (too hot), and Prince preaching for hours on end while he was in a weak state of mind.

Prince could have wanted Kevin to stay on as his "documentary guy" to change the world. Therefore, when Kevin left, Prince might have been sad or angry.

I'll stress this is just IMO. So when Prince went to see Jersey Girl and leaves 1/2 way thru, he says "thats what happens when the potty mouth don't work for u anymore."

So, does he mean cussing doesn't work or Kevin (the pottymouth) doesn't work for Prince anymore?

Hmmm

On that one night with Kevin Smith DVD what did you think of his experience with Prince? I thought the story was pretty funny but I think he just found it impossible to relate to Prince. I wonder if Kevin listens to much less Prince nowadays after that experience.

What really struck me was when he said Prince went into his whole preaching thing and started explaing the order of Man, woman, child, animal...I am happy for Prince that he has found Jehovah faith and is grounded but I don't know...that kind of thing has me worried. I really hope someone doesn't actually belive that.... boxed

At the time P was newly converted. We have not heard of him doing this since this time so I think Kev needs to give it a rest. After all he is Catholic so he is he to talk about someone else's religionious beliefs.

For whatever reasons their personalities did not mesh and they both need to leave it alone.

Ifsixwuz9 is right on point. P did not put a gun to Kevin's head and make him work for free. I can't figure out if P has the power of mind control or if people just lose their ability to say "F this I am out of here and leave".

The critics dissed Kev's creativty to when the ripped him for Gilly.
I'm as big a fan as any of y'all, but what's right is right and P went left on that one. Waaaay left.

I don't think Kev is amping it up - it's a story told in response to a question asked, preserved on a dvd. It's there for people to watch, I don't think either is going around slamming the other. And he didn't speak ill of Prince's beliefs. Honestly, I think his feelings were hurt, I mean the man was all hemmed up in filming on Father's Day and didn't get to hang out with his daughter, among all the other things that went down.

LOL @ the brainwashing, Rockability. STAY STRONG!

Once again why did'nt he just leave. No one forced him to be away from his family on Fathers Day and work for free. I am a huge P fan but, I don't work for free for anyone.(LOL)

Why do you say that? And to whom is he selling out?

Don't you think it would be interesting to see where those sardonic 20-somethings ended up?

The premise of a sequel is always interesting. Very rarely ends up that way.

Smith time and time again said he'd leave Jersey behind (J&SB anyway) and move on after J&SB Strike Back.

Jersey Girl flops and he does the safe picture again.

He's selling out the idea of the original clerks

Personally, I think Jersey Girl flopping (and that's subjective) has nothing to do with revisiting Clerks. Where's he gonna "move on" to? New York? L.A.? Red Bank is the blow-up, I was there recently, it's a lovely place.

Different strokes, I guess, but I'm looking forward to it. I hung out with Brian O'Halloran recently (Dante' in Clerks) and he's an awesome dude, Kev's no slouch himself. I think Clerks 2 is a challenge more than anything, because to do it successfully you can't desecrate the original, it can't be watered down.

I can't wait.

Lots of comments on here from people that probably haven't even seen the DVD. Well, as a Kevin Smith fan as well as Prince, I have to say that if I'd been even Kevin's position I would have been pissed off too. What does come across is how big a fan of Prince Kevin is (was?) and how in awe of him when first speaking to him.

It is a fantastic DVD by the way - Prince would definitely not approve of the language throughout but who cares! Also, for guaranteed laugh/squirm experience get the DVD for Kevin's explanation of his first sexual experience with his future wife. Hilarious!

Can't wait for the follow up DVD from Kevin - coming soon.....

His issues with Prince have nothing to do with why I don't like him. And I am not comparing apples to oranges. My point is that Prince has been bashed for shoving his views upon people during the TRC era. In my opinion, Kevin Smith does the same thing in the two movies I referenced. I formed my opinion of Kevin after seeing the movies and the dvd extras. If he weren't a Prince fan my opinion of him would be the same.
