I think being nude is representative of exposing yourself, which is exactly what a songwriter/composer/performer does. However, the embarrasing part is trying to explain things like this to others. I've come to the conclusion that if people can't try to understand the messages an artist is sending then it's them who are missing out on life enriching experiences.

than the same should be applied to porn stars as well, correct? either the nude rationalization applies to all who are nude, and thus there is no need for the word lewd, or this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read.
this message brought to you by logic.

I've been embarrassed a few times. Hell, I even blasted his music in my dormroom just to let people know that Prince ain't no joke... They probably laughed, but I didn't care. All I know is that this man is a true genius. I can totally understand this dude. I let everyone know about how I respect this guy. Some people just don't understand.

No the same should not be applied to porn stars. Porn stars are in no way trying to make an artistic statement. If Prince was trying to be pornographic on the lovesexy cover he would have turned and given us a full frontal. The only ridiculous thing I see is making whack-ass comparisons to try to make a point. Therefore, your name on this forum is very apt. Here's the main difference:

Prince-Trying to bare himself artisticly

Porn Star-Fucking people/animals/inanimate objects for money

I don't see how a comparison of the two can be made. shrug

the lovesexy cover is obviously a peice of artwork, and a damn good one at that! I cant believe were arguing over this! Prince was not trying to be pornographic, he seems to understand the beauty of the human form, hell he writes about it enough.

You cant compare lovesexy to porn. But it you get of on it thats a whole other story!!

Do they make fun of you?

If they did, I'd beat the shit out of them.

Are they cool about it?

Why the fuck wouldn't they be? They're adults.

Are they baffald?

"Baffled"?

Have you ever tried to introduce a video, preformance or song and been kinda embarrrased when Prince was laying the androgony thing on thick?

Not really.

I was just wondering what it is like for you guys?

It's great. We get two options: either you stand and pee, or, you sit and pee like the girls. There's freedom in the choice!

Just wonders: why is that Lovesexy-cover embarrasing?

Its just a naked fellow, sitting very decent on a bed of flowers.
If it was some women posing for lingerie or parfum on a poster, would anyone make a fuss?

And i am not even gay or bisexual.....i mean, its a original Prince-move, nothing more.....

The thing all openminded, spiritual people should be embarrassed off are the lyrics on The Rainbow Children

I think what they mean, is that his pose is feminine (and he's in flowers) therefore it makes him look gay to some people (who do not see the true genius that he is), so yes of course it wouldnt matter if it was a woman.

oops, i did miss your remark in this thread, Funky Mistress...

Spiritual, intuitive people will understand that Princes lyrics on The Rainbow Children are wrong, hurting other peeps, brainwashed...

I dont blaim Prince as a PERSON for that, i mean, he had to deal with the death of his children, his divorce with Mayte, the death of both his parents, things like that can you move inside the terrority of some false movement like the Jehovah witnesses.....For Prince as a PERSON i hope he will see in that this 'faith' might be offering some relieve, but when it comes to enjoying the richness and joy of life you really have to get rid of that sectarians.....I hope for him, he will follow his soul and intuition, and grow further.....

Point, but i think at that time it would be viewed negatively more as pornographic material rather than be flooded by strong gay accusations by the typical rap following, homophobic guys we see nowdays that know nothing about his music.

I think the level of comfort evolves with the music scene itself. In the early 80's, androginy was a phenomenon and had a degree of coolness, people like David Bowie having paved the way. Michael Jackson was on top of the world and Boy George and Annie Lennox were emerging. Although Prince's habit of performing in little more than a raincoat made many guys uncomfortable, he was still raw and raunchy enough to inject the right amount of testosterone.

When rap came along, there was a plethora of hypermasculine role models that started to replace the more ambiguous personalities. Prince did not follow the trend by beefing up his image, quite the contrary. He feminized it even more with girly wardrobe choices and songs like If I Was Your Girlfriend. Byh the time he performed Gett Off in bottomless pants, the number of straight males who were uncomfortable had increased. Around me, guys found him off-putting and thought I liked him because he acted so gay.

I think many guys recognize he's a genius but can't stand him, especially the mannerism and the screams. Now that he has toned it down considerably, he may find a new male audience though he'll still have to contend with the fact that super high falsetto voices inevitably come off as feminine.

Aerogram, perhaps the straight guys who feel "uncomfortable" because of Prince are actually attracted, or are afraid they may have an attraction, to Prince. I've read, and been told, about guys who have been attracted to Prince, especially during the VMA show where he went bottomless.

I am straight and have never been attracted to prince, indeed i think he is a good looking guy and he is very cool, but he can come away with lines sometimes that go beyond playfull arrogance as mentioned above.
