Anyone who would give their friend's grief over their liking of Prince or any other androgynous rock star aren't really friends, now, are they?
The only time I worried about that was when I was in the closet, and my "friends" would say, "I like Prince, but he's such a fag." I don't think they mean gay man when they say this, or sissy. I think they mean different. Either way, when I came out, that ceased to be something I was really bothered by.

Besides that, I have this album cover of Prince from the Lovesexy period (not the cover image), where he's got such varying styles of make-up on, and different colors, that he almost looks like a camp drag queen. It's an odd pic to look at, and at the same time, it's almost heroic of him to look this way. Like the Sisters Of Perpetual Indulgence out of LA and SF (other places too), who wear white face, a nun's habit and have beards or goatees. That's drag the way it was meant to be. But I digress. It's a strangely secure thing to look at when someone is secure enough in his sexuality to bend the lines as much as Prince has done before.

Yes, a dozens of times
A few examples: - Prince visiting the dutch TV show called 'TV Show' and during an interview letting Larry Graham doing all the answering, preaching for JW constantly.....creepy - The whole 'slave' thing, i can understand Prince having problems with his recordcompany, but comparing himselve to a 'slave' all the time, was just too much, and in fact a shame for people who REALLY were a victim of slavery. - The Rainbow-children album: being offensive about women, jews, underestamitating the impact of the holocaust, being dogmatic and shortthinking in general.....I mean, what the hell happened to the Prince who did sang "white, black, porturican, everybody just afreaking, good times were rolling!" (Uptown)? - Graffiti Bridge: I mean, how can someone convince others of his spiritual believes with cardboard sets, a 'graffiti bridge' looking like some ricewaffle with letters sprayed on it, and acting which is on the level of a schoolmusical?

- Dogmatic, brainwashed: on mostly all the tracks (including the lines sited by this "Darth Vader"-type of Prince, Prince says that all people should turn themselve to following the JW-faith, or otherwise they will be banished.... (aka nonbelievers fuck-off, thats not very spiritual sounding to me ) - Being offensive against women: Muse to the Pharaoh (message: the man is superior to the woman, and the man should 'learn' the woman about life and religion.... blaaah), The Everlasting Now ('They say men arent fit to rule' Prince sings, but who does say that?, whats your personal view on that? or you just siting some JW-source?) - Being antisemitic: Prince sings black men where the real slaves, and that jewish people should be lucky, they control society and shouldnt nag about the holocaust, because according to Prince black slaves have suffered more.....these kind of lyrics are not only silly, but grieving, Prince should know better, I cant listen to this song because of these lyrics)

I got it out from the library once, and i had to stop at the first song, cuz it was the Vadar Voice. i hated it. and then when i tried to give it a second chance, all the lyrics were sooooo set on JW stuff i was so upset. i had to turn it off. i couldn't understand what had happened to the "everybody, black white, purple, green" anyone any religion thing. It really freaks me out, and i am NOT PROUD to say that prince even came out with this album... u can flame me all u want. but it's terrible. i'm certainly not gonna try and add this to my cd collection. I called all of my firenda and relatives to either have them tune in or come over to watch the show, because Prince was gonna be on a couple of days. When he performed 'Get Off' I think. The dance routine, severely questioned Prince sexuality. His dancers picked him up and bent him over in a doggystyle positioned. ANd the kept doing it repeatedly, furthering my embarassment.
The performance you speak of was "Daddy Pop" (I can see where you got confused. He had performed "Gett Off" on the Arsenio-hosted MTV Video Awards just days earlier, and shown the world his buttless pants). This was rather embarrassing to most Prince fans, I do believe. Even if he were gay, I would hope he wouldn't be topped by Tony M. I couldn't believe it when it happened and I can't believe it now...does anyone have a picture of that??? Going on and on about how "Do Me Baby" was such a sexy song to a friend and insisting she listen to it only for her to hear that ultra questionable orgasm at the end of the song...followed by "I'm so cold. Hold me."

Maybe im the rare one here but i have never been embarassed of Prince, I think at his most girlie in the most nasty outfit he is at his best. All my friends think its kinda cool that i love him at his freakiest.... but I do like it when its so bad it's good.

Back in 1990, when he played in front of 70000 people at The Parc des Princes in Paris. I came with friends who were not into Prince. I had told them how great were the Parade, sign o the times and Lovesexy tours.
And he did one the shittiest concers I have ever seen. Dreadful. He just played a bit more than 60 minutes, the sound was awful. He looked lame and tired on stage. I even remember him playing Question of you alone on the piano and Michael B starting a high tempo funky beat in the back that had nothing to do with the song ! So unprofessional ! It was so embarassing. Thousands of people who had never seen Prince before still think he is an overrated shit because of this specific concert. Il n'y a pas de sentiment plus exaltant que celui d'appartenir à une nation si diverse, si libre et si douée pour le bonheur.

If u looked at that picture and some ill come out of your mouth, then that what u are-it's looking right back at u in the mirror." I've never been emabarrassed by Prince. I just can't believe all the things people say. Open your minds. Nothing "gay" about being nude. I think being nude is representative of exposing yourself, which is exactly what a songwriter/composer/performer does. However, the embarrasing part is trying to explain things like this to others. I've come to the conclusion that if people can't try to understand the messages an artist is sending then it's them who are missing out on life enriching experiences.
