Guys: Have you ever been emabarrassed by Prince?

Hey guys I was wondering what your other male friends think of your Prince obsession. Do they make fun of you? Are they cool about it? Are they baffald? Have you ever tried to introduce a video, preformance or song and been kinda embarrrased when Prince was laying the androgony thing on thick? I was just wondering. I get teased by my friends all the time for liking his music and thinking he is hot-not that I really care I think it is quiet funny actually when my girlfriends are like "Ewwwhh how can you think he is hot? He looks like a woman!" or "He is so gay!" Or something equally as judgemental or stupid I was just wondering what it is like for you guys?? cool

I've been embarassed by Prince before. At one of the Lovesexy concerts, right after he performed Glam Slam, and that part at the end when the violins come to an abrupt stop, i let one rip, and Prince yelled into the mic: "Turn the houselights up, and shine the light on that stankin' ass mofo who just stopped me from ever performing here again." And they packed up the show and hauled ass. Now Prince fans around here get mad at me because now they have to drive 6+ hours to get to one of his concerts. I turned so red. I've never been embarassed like that in my life.

well, he's not the most masculine guy in the world sometimes. I just tell them to close their eyes & listen to the jams.

bout 10-12 years ago, when Arsenio hall was the shit. I called all of my firenda and relatives to either have them tune in or come over to watch the show, because Prince was gonna be on a couple of days. When he performed 'Get Off' I think. The dance routine, severely questioned Prince sexuality. His dancers picked him up and bent him over in a doggystyle positioned. ANd the kept doing it repeatedly, furthering my embarassment.

I get comments all the time. I guess it is a little weird to be obsessed with anything. Once I taught a Prince lesson to a Ninth grade class. I used lyrics and video to teach an English lesson about thematic imagery. At first I was getting laughed at and they were making the gay comments. By the end of the lesson the class applauded and I became their favorite teacher. Just an example of how Prince is misunderstood.

Sure. I'm a "pillar of the community". If my wife and kids (not to mention the PTA, civic organizations, etc.) knew I visited the org, they'd question my sanity, if not my orientation.

When I was growing up, guys (especially black guys) were the main people that were into Prince. Most of the girls liked Prince for songs like "Do Me, Baby" and "International Lover", but the guys were the ones pumping all his jams up back then and would fight someone if they said anything bad about Prince.

Prince was highly accepted with males back then because he was one of the hardest jamming motherfuckers out there and could compete with the other artists that were throwing down hard. I've seen many an arguement that started between male Prince and Rick James fans back in the day. I always loved both, but back then, there were groups that were "Prince people" and groups that were "Rick James people". I also remember the first time that most white guys saw Prince. A group of white football players were talking in school one Monday morning and saying "did y'all see that fag on Solid Gold last Saturday (Prince had performed Little Red Corvette)" Black guys were ready to fight that morning.

I never was embarrassed by Prince back in the day, in fact I flaunted him. The first time Prince embarrassed me was the "Parade" album. That damn orchestra and classical music on the album was a complete embarrassment. I also saw many long time Prince fans leave him for that.

Guys didn't really have a problem with Prince's look until the 1990s when all this overly butch ass gangsta rap thug image took over. During Prince's day, almost all male artists wore make-up, it was the glam era.

The performance you speak of was "Daddy Pop" (I can see where you got confused. He had performed "Gett Off" on the Arsenio-hosted MTV Video Awards just days earlier, and shown the world his buttless pants). This was rather embarrassing to most Prince fans, I do believe. Even if he were gay, I would hope he wouldn't be topped by Tony M.

That wouldn't have been so bad if he had opened his legs. They could have put it in a plain brown wrapper and a totally full frontal nude album would have sold like hotcakes and really boosted his "nasty" image.

1. No, I haven't.

2. Why the fuck is it that every single time this question comes up, the idea of Prince being gay is so goddamn embarrassing?

Glamslamkid is still really sensitive about it, though, so I'd take it easy with the questions. sad

The name change was pretty tough. Graffiti Bridge ( I just kept a low profile ). I was watching some old videos and the NPG interview, where he's Tora Tora (with his face totally covered). He doesn't speak at all and talks through Mayte. While no one I know has ever seen it, I would be embarrassed. He looked like an idiot.

Exactly! If anything, it's a complement. His gay look is the reason I always flaunted him. People need to stop seeing "gay" as an insult.

People looking at the Lovesexy cover and calling him "gay" and "faggot" is an insult. As Prince said "All that album cover was, was a picture. If u looked at that picture and some ill come out of your mouth, then that what u are-it's looking right back at u in the mirror." I've never been emabarrassed by Prince. I just can't believe all the things people say. Open your minds. Nothing "gay" about being nude.
Goodnight, sweet Prince.

Because "faggot" is a violent and derogatory term, or because people are implying that he's gay and that in itself is an insult?

People implying that he is "gay" by the way he looks are not saying that as a complement. The jokes and allegations are mean spirited and homophobic.

His lyrics embarrass me sometimes:
"goody for you"(Life of the party)

or "boo hoo" (I hate you)

or "How dare U call a robot 'Mecca'"(judas smile)

or "Speaking of which, U say U like it
U say U like it when I scream
I like it when U do 2" (sex me sex me not)

that last one sounds like he didn't even try to write something lyrical at all. Just listen to it on the track.
