"U" released by Paula Abdul May 14th 1991 We're getting to the scraps of anniversaries ("getting," I hear you ask, "how about the Call The Law video?").
Thoughts on the song U? Thoughts on the original by Prince with The Rebels? Hey, let's just use this thread to talk about The Rebels - that was an interesting side project (cue questions like "Who were The Rebels?", "When was this project?", "Did they record an album?" and "Where can I get a bootleg?") Personally I was pleasantly surprised when I heard Paula Abdul's version - I bought it as part of my Paisley collection, but wasn't expecting much. I thought it was original and dancy in an eery kind of way. Interesting track.

I have to say that I loved Paula's version of the song...until two weeks ago, when I first heard Prince's original version (on the Work Volume 1). As great as Paula's version is, Pince's version blows it out of the water! I would have loved it if this song had been released by him, it has such an edge to it. Such a good feel to it. I do believe though, that people would not have been ready for this track; it would not have been received properly by the "listening public".
