Get Off/Gett Off Just wondering...Does anyone know why Prince recorded the song "Get Off" for the "New Power Generation" maxi-single and then recorded a totally different song "Gett Off" for Diamonds and Pearls. I noticed that the main riff for "Get Off" appears briefly in "Gett Off" and Prince then laughs as if to say "yeah, I changed it, so what?"

I've heard a bootleg version of 'Violett The Organ Grinder' that uses the same instrumental arrangement as 'Gett Off' and also 'Glam Slam 91' uses some of the lyrics that later appeared on 'Gett Off'.
I think ultimately that the song is pretty much organic and evolved in a way that we've never witnessed before or since with a Prince song.

The original "Get off" was on the maxi-single for the song "New Power Generation". Not really a true b-side but more of a remix of the NPG song.
I love the tune as well, and was totally confused when he came out a year later with Gett off. HE obviously just dug the title and reworked a new groove to it. Violet the Organ Grinder is true remix of Gett off. If it breaks when it bends, you better not put it in.

Yeah, I don't really see a connection between the two other than the title. It doesn't really sound like "Gett Off" was simply re-worked and then added to the Diamonds and Pearls cd. They sound like two totally different songs that just ended up with the same title. But just to sort of make it interesting, Prince did add the short snippet from the fist "Get Off" into the new "Gett Off". But including small snippets or samples from other songs that he's already written into a "new" song is somewhat common for Prince. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So why did they leave off 'LOVE OR $' from the hits/b sides????
That surely deserved cd treatment!
