New NPG Band?????

Prince rocked the NAACP show, however I did notice some new faces in his band. Who are these people and how does he find them? Where was Rentao, that dude is awesome. I also love how Prince is using the horn section, what a sight it would be to see more artist actually playing with real instruments and singing live as oppsoed to alot of the crpa that has been put out laltey by other artist. Prince will always be a "true" artist.

Peace.

Prince is a band whore!!!! He goes through so many different band members I don't even pay attention to them. I wonder how many of his former bandmates leave Prince on bad terms.

But, what's up with that big ole 500lb keyboardist Prince has, he makes Prince look like a toddler when they stand side by side.

I think The NPG is much more about music than face.

This was NOT the NPG, just his backing band for the night (which included some of Sheila's band).

They're called "hired help." More boring players for more boring music.

The NAACP performance was a piece of shit.

I agree...and that drummer was soft.

And another thing....Historically Prince makes crappy music when he spotlights all his bandmate people...think back a few years:
The whole GCS2000 Chaka Khan thing.
Kip Blackshire...
That lousy R&B group (the 3 chicks)
DVS (oh boy...terrible, managed to ruin Daisey Chain for me)
Tony M.
Kirk Johnson's production and rap group (the fonky baldheads)
That chick who sang the Shania Twain cover with him
Even that ugly back up dancer Geneva...

bad, bad, bad...I hope that boring dude on keys, and that American Idol-esque singer isn't the new breed.

For once I'm in agreement with EWM. eek I thought the performance was soooo lackluster. I appreciated Prince taking the time to reflect on the various artists that influnced him. However, I was un-moved by the guest performers. I was blown away, once again by Sheila E.'s complete mastery whenever she performs. I only really enjoyed Prince's bass playing and his solo on Soul Sacrifice other than that the performance was a complete let down.

Performance was lackluster compared to whom? himself? As far as band members....the arrangement wasn't meant to showcase the band. The fact that he agreed to use them says a lot for their talent. Trust there's a long line of musicians who would've jumped at the chance. Besides like Miles Davis,Prince, is constantly changing his band. Every 4-6 yrs to be exact. This ain't the 1st time.Nor is it the last. Fans from the pre-purple rain days are used to it. So quit hatin'. 4 months from now heads will be posting how tight they sound.

Oh hold up a minute there buddy. You about to step on something. Mr. Hayes was there because he was a fantastic player. So don't go putting him down cause he is also a great person and what have you ever played on to criticize him anyway. I thought the performance that night was awesome but I am noticing that the haters think that their opinions matter most but oh well. Think what you like cause there is no pleasing you but you have your rights.

I have to concur...that was one of the most stale sounding performances I've heard him do. Especially compared to the few seconds that Morris Day was out there...everything else was REALLY flat!

Who all agrees that Evil White Male should find him someone NEW to be a fan of? He wastes his time watching every Prince show, performance, CD, etc... just to run it down. There are many times I think Prince should have handled a lot of things differently with his career, but if I hated him so much I wouldn't waste a second of my precious life visiting prince.org. Find you a new idol, EWM. You only do what you do for attention. It's rather pathetic. That's my 2 cents, spend it wisely.

Peace

Well, if you constantly throw out strong, largely negative opinions, whatever the merits, you will always find at least someone to agree with you each time.

If you make a good point once in a blue moon to someone, it is human nature for them to say "For the first time I agree with you."

And frankly, this wasn't a hard one to call. Other than the aforementioned bass and guitar solos, this was a dreary, phoned-in performance.
Watching him perform "Housequake" only brought up very unflattering comparisons to the Sign/Lovesexy shows.
Ditto the butchered "D.M.S.R", as compared to the Musicology shows.
