Drugs influenced music

Why are those who praise the useage of drugs and there positive influence in the creation of music the 1st to say "what was he on" when he/she made a particular record that they do not like? hmmm

Also, people are quick to state examples of great songs created under the influence of intoxicants as proof that they aid creation. However, we would never know what such artists were capable of whilst not under the influence of drugs. Perhaps they could have created and performed better than what we were given. For instance, Jimi Hendrix would often play whilst on acid. I often wonder what he could have channeled through his music if he remained 'straight'?

i am not condeming drug use or praising it. To each their own. i was just thinking.

Drugs and music have always been linked - I sincerely doubt some of the wild ideas expressed by artists like George Clinton for example would have come to the surface in quite the same way had they been sipping mint tea and eating Baklava.

Technical fluffery is all very well, but I'd rather have entertainment than perfection.

Its a tough one. I think the idea and the inspiration of a song can be influenced whilst under the influence of certain drugs, but im not sure that the actual excersize of putting it together is helped by the drugs.

When I have smoked a spliff music sounds different and in some cases better where the ear concentrates on a more detailed level. Also, any ideas I may come up with sound fantastic in my head. But when it actually comes to the technicalities of laying the tracks down being stoned slows the whole process down. Plus, many times, once sober the track doesnt sound half as good as it did whilst flying high...

I think drugs can make bad things sound good so it can be a bit misleading.
