Prince's Most Realistic Song

What do you guys think Prince's most realistic song is?

Personally, I think it is Sign O' The Times. All of this stuff sounds like stuff I hear on the news today, even though this song was made in 1987.

Oh yeah
In france a skinny man
Died of a big disease with a little name
By chance his girlfriend came across a needle
And soon she did the same
At home there are seventeen-year-old boys
And their idea of fun
Is being in a gang called the disciples
High on crack, totin’ a machine gun

Time, time

Hurricane annie ripped the ceiling of a church
And killed everyone inside
U turn on the telly and every other story
Is tellin’ u somebody died
Sister killed her baby cuz she could afford 2 feed it
And we’re sending people 2 the moon
In september my cousin tried reefer 4 the very first time
Now he’s doing horse, it’s june

Times, times

It’s silly, no?
When a rocket ship explodes
And everybody still wants 2 fly
Some say a man ain’t happy
Unless a man truly dies
Oh why
Time, time

Baby make a speech, star wars fly
Neighbors just shine it on
But if a night falls and a bomb falls
Will anybody see the dawn
Time, times

It’s silly, no?
When a rocket blows
And everybody still wants 2 fly
Some say a man ain’t happy, truly
Until a man truly dies
Oh why, oh why, sign o the times

Time, time

Sign o the times mess with your mind
Hurry before it’s 2 late
Let’s fall in love, get married, have a baby
We’ll call him nate... if it’s a boy

Time, time

Time, time

by 'realistic', do you mean 'political'?

No, I mean one that could apply to everyday life for normal people...(which could be political, I guess). Not some sappy true love song, because that hardly ever happens to normal people. Just a song that shows how life really is.

hmmm. maybe 'anna stesia'?

i can't pin it down precisely, though the emotion in that song is something i can relate to as something that's real and genuine.

The realism in Papa is kinda eerie...the song puts you in a place you don't really want to be anywhere near.

I think Don't Talk 2 Strangers could be realistic in the position of someone having to leave a child or lover for a very long time. I hardly ever hear this song talked about, I don't know why though, it's great.

i think it depends on the kind of life u lead...Personally, I think Temptation is the most realistic song about lust i've ever heard.

Especially the arrangement of the song-- his fall into the throes of his vice, then the conversation with 'God', and how it isnt really resolved @ the end-- story of my religious life.

But maybe thats just me and my dirty mind. shrug

i always thought it was

"mine is the runnin' hot water of the daughter of morality"

the lyrics you wrote would be too darn dark and violent

in spite of the slight cheesiness of the song, "Free" immediately stands out for me as very honest because of its naivity.

I think "Dear Mr. Man" is a true to life commentary on the way of the U.S. today.
Also "I Hate U" because he hates and loves this person at the same time. I can personally attest to that and I don't think I'm the only one.

Another: "I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore" lots of us have been there, done that.

Holy River is just so real to me... especially the "why'd u come down to Earth so cold" part.. "can't run from urself and what's inside/gotta find the answers to the questions you most fear"... sorry i could probably just write the whole song lyrics... everyone's been in that type of situation, that feeling of no one really being able to help you w/your problems.. and although I'm not a very religious person... God is usually the answer to ur problems.. (and, on a much lighter note, not to mention I love the guitar solo at the end biggrin )~

This is a conversation that in my opinion isn't going to lead anywhere. Yes, people still die every day, and are put down and wronged, but peope also fall in love still, every day, everywhere in the world. It doesn't necessarily last a lifetime, but the feeling is there. and when the feeling is dying another Prince song comes in. I think pretty much the only song that doesnt qute catch real world is either 7 or La la la, hee hee hee. Just because Dogs are rarely sexually attracted to cats.
