A Case of U

Has Joni Mitchell made any comments about Prince's version of this song on the One Nite Alone album? I'd be interested to here her opinion even though I don't know much about her. Personally I prefer Prince's version, but I'm not sure which...I saw a great clip off the internet of him performing it in 1983.

She seems to be at his house all the damn time according to the 3121 reports. She's either OK with it, or aint leaving 'til he withdraws the CDs.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I absolutely love Joni's version of A Case of U. I have heard a live version of Prince singing the song from like 20 years ago, but I haven't heard the ONA version yet.

I have wondered why Princes version of 'A Case Of You' omits several verses? Also why doe he change the lyrics from -

"I'm frightened by the devil, and drawn to those who ain't afraid"

to

"I used to be frightened by the devil and i'm drawn to those who ain't afraid"

I never understood this. To me, part of the songs beauty lies in the honesty and vulnerability of the lyrics. however, prince appears to leave out the verses and changes the lyrics to parts of the track which would reveal him to be vulnerable. Its a shame, as i believe that being more honest about your feelings in a song is Princes key to evolve as a songwriter in his latter years. I need Prince to step out from behind the facade.

Well, not everybody is frightened of the devil. Given my religious beliefs, I would've changed that part to.

He started covering the song before his beliefs changed. He's performed it so many times, it's clear that it has a special place in his heart and that he doesn't want to stop performing it. So he made a little change in the lyrics to reflect where he's at personally.

i see. however, he did more than make 'a little change in the lyrics'. He omits several verses, too.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever heard him do the first verse.
