That's what I thought As far as I know, its Prince on bass for the entire album.

Thanks for the input.I've always thought that it was Prince on those tracks, but have also thought that it would be so hard to give up that style.Check out the first track on the Madhouse cd 8(?) maybe it's 16. The album where the woman is on her knees playing with a dog. Is that Prince? It's real busy like Le Grind.

It's a well documented fact that Prince plays the bass on that track.


Levi is an awesome bass player but let's also give credit where credit is due.

Sorry to spoil the spontaneous Levi appreciation society that has suddenly formed in here, and much props to the man, but the fact remains that both "Le Grind" and "2 Nigs United 4 West Compton" are not just Prince compositions but also feature Prince on bass.

Whatever - the best bit about the above for me is how fucking cool would that be, having someone write and record 3 tunes as quality as Le Grind, Bob George and 2 Nigs United 4 West Compton for your birthday party?!

And I'll bet they sounded incredible over whatever rig they used for that party!

why are some of you so sure it's Levi? Did you see that documented somewhere?

I think it sounds like him. Reminds me of the bass solo on the SOTT concert movie. I think it's played with a pick and Levi used to do that, I think.

according to "the vault" 2 nigs is "sheila on drums" and "prince flexing muscles with a succession of solos on organ synth and bass."

and it was recorded in early december of 1986 around when his crystal ball album idea was veto'd by Warners. Levi and Bonnie joined his live band and were brought by sheila e the next month in January....

so.... hmmm... the book could be wrong....
