Some people think I'm kinda cute! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
Something in the Water (Does Not Compute) Sweet Heaven!!! I had the extreme pleasure to hear a live version of SITWDNC today! (may-june 1984 rehearsal / purplerush vol3) It starts out as almost like a calypso beat then enters the pressing guitar then then enter the vocals. To me it is a completely different feeling then the stark album version. The guitar and synth are so much more upbeat and engaging - (it does, however, lack the fierce screams of passion we love him for). It's a real treat for the ears and highly recommended! Every fam should have this in their collection! Anyone else dig this track? Prince, U think U're special? -- Well so do I! "All of me give 2 thee down at your feet ...
The reassurance in your rhythm speaks 2 me." -------------------------------------------------------- "I wanna hold U, wrap U up in lace. And I wanna kiss U, kiss U all over your face."

This is definitely one of my all time favorite songs ...but are you sure you´re talking about the early summer ´84 version ?? The almost 14 minutes version ? Because as far as I know that one DOES include some "fierce screams of passion", and it doesn´t start calypso-like. Calypso came to my mind when he played that song at the Celebration 2002. Could that be the version you´re talking about ?? That´s the new version, played at the Celebration and the One Night Alone tour. PS: Ever heard the acoustic version ? " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

This is definitely one of my all time favorite songs ...but are you sure you´re talking about the early summer ´84 version ?? Mmm Hmm Yup =) It is definitely 1984 with backing vox with wendy and lisa. The PurpRush cds have purp rain tour rehearsal outakes with Prince telling the band (revolution) what to do as well as and the usual music cues. So it is definitely part of the same time era. The almost 14 minutes version ? This ver runs for 6 minutes. Because as far as I know that one DOES include some "fierce screams of passion", and it doesn´t start calypso-like. The sound is similar to the oil drum sounds they play in the carribbean and it is mellow and slowly building (similar to the feeling in "joy in repetition") -- i miss the screams.. it really sells the song - but he makes up for it somewhat with some grinding electric guitar. Maybe he wanted to save his voice as this is just a rehearsal. Calypso came to my mind when he played that song at the Celebration 2002. Could that be the version you´re talking about ?? That´s the new version, played at the Celebration and the One Night Alone tour. I haven't heard the Cel 2002 yet, i didn't even know he still plays it live anymore. U are very lucky to be there to hear it! PS: Ever heard the acoustic version ? Not yet =) -- what year is it from? Now I'm even more excited! (If that's possible) ----- ----- (DJ506 did the ver u heard have the screams too?) "All of me give 2 thee down at your feet ...

(If that's possible) ----- ----- ) Aaahhh. now I see what you mean...you´re talking about those steel drum sounds ( which are probably not really steeldrums but keyboard sounds ) and it slowly builds up, right ?? Anyway, the version I have is 14 min. long and one of my favorite things to listen to...but the 2002 version had a much more mellow caribbean vibe to it. The 2002 version made some rare appearances at the Celebration and the Bataclan aftershow in Paris 2002. The acoustic version was part of the Musicology set but I don´t remember the city...just start a thread about it The acoustic version is something I´m really keen on. Haven´t heard it yet and it´s one of those songs I can´t even imagine as an acoustic version... " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"
