1999 pisses all over Thriller. Not that I think Thriller isn't a great record but 1999 is the greatest album ever made.

The only one I may agree with is Off The Wall beating Prince, but I would probably call that a draw.

Thanks for at least playin' Po.
Don't get me wrong I'm a Prince fan not an MJ fan (well a little bit of a Jackson fan). I can admire Jackson's brilliance but I wouldn't go out of my way to see him live. However alot of Orgers give out about some of Prince's lesser works and then go mental when you try comparing those works to something by another artists. Some of the stuff is similar like the bad rap efforts on Dangerous and Diamonds, though done way better on Diamonds it has to be said. I think HIStory has to be the most underratted album ever. You always hear about Off the Wall and Thriller but never HIStory. It has less filler than Thriller and some really exceptional tracks, Disk 2 I mean obviously.

well, MJ has more fans worldwide and has sold more albums worldwide and has made more $$$$ than P throughout the yrs so I would say that his album are better.

what did Prince do in the 1960's and early 70's? NOTHING!!
MJ is the exact same age and he was selling records.
He may not have been a solo act but he was the heart and soul
of the group.

I love HIStory, but the Gold Experience probably ties with it. I even liked the second disk, but there were a few songs on it that sucked, unlike TGE where everything was gold.

And I love Thriller, but I can admit that it's the most overrated album of all time. 1999
Don't hurt me, I'm a newb. I'm supposed to be stupid.

making a slight adjustment

1978 - Destiny V For You --- Destiny
1980 - Triumph V Dirty Mind --- Triumph
1981 - The Jacksons Live V Controversy ----Controversy
1984 - Victory V Purple Rain -----Purple Rain

and if you wanna play unfair

1969 Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5
1970 ABC
1970 Third Album
1970 The Jackson 5 Christmas Album
1971 Maybe Tomorrow
1971 Greatest Hits
1971 Got to be there
1971 Going Back To Indiana
1972 Lookin' Through The Windows
1972 Ben
1973 Music and Me
1973 Get It Together
1973 Skywriter
1974 Dancing Machine
1975 Moving Violation
1975 Forever, Michael
1976 The Jacksons
1977 Goin' Places

I won’t count the J5 or early solo Mike, if you don’t count the Revolution or NPG. How's that?

After Prince came out with SOTT he eclipsed Michael. Bad was an artistic let down. I wonder how long this P VS MJ thing will go on.

There was a Bowie V Prince here a while ago and nobody said boo. They are just 2 great artists so why not compare? Anyhow Prince did call MJ a musical genius before. I wonder how Prince would vote on the competing albums?

Winner: Sign O' the Times Definitly
1991 - Dangerous V Diamonds and Pearls

Winner: The Rainbow Children Definitly
2003 - Number Ones V NEWS
Winner: Number Ones How can u compare a "best of" with an original album ?! NEWS would kick any record's ass anyway
2004 - The Ultimate Collection V Musicology Winner: The Ultimate Collection Again, how can u compare a "best of" with an original album ?! But if we're to do it, i'd tend 2 agree on this one

Thanx God 4 poor Michael, emancipation lover 4got 2 mention all the Time, Ap/Van6, Family, JJ, Mavis, Madhouse, E.Leeds, Mayte, Exodus & Goldnigga, Kamasutra, etc... all Prince records disguised as other people's records...

MJ is GREAT, but there's no match. How can u compare a guy who has recorded 6 album (even with 3 or 4 masterpieces amongst them) with a man who has recorded 60 (with 20 or 30 masterpieces amongst them)...

It would be comparing Jimi with Zappa. Both are geniuses, but u can't compare the whole discography it makes no sense...

Ah but has anyone done the album v album thing before. I was trying to compare albums that came out in the same year, don't see what one artist having 52 and a half other albums has got to do with it unless you want to include the very best of Prince in 2001 but that didn't have any original recordings on it (Number Ones had one new one on there) or Exodus in 1995 but I hadn't included any Jackson 5 stuff either so chill out you hippies!

dent

1979 - Off the Wall V Prince
Winner: Off the Wall kicks "Prince's" ass, too bad Michael only wrote three of the songs (albeit the best three)
1982 - Thriller V 1999
Winner: 1999 for Lady Cab Driver alone, had all the songs been as good as the ones MJ wrote himself, Thriller might've won
1987 - Bad V Sign O' the Times
Winner: Sign O' the Times OWNS Bad handily
1991 - Dangerous V Diamonds and Pearls
Winner: I like Dangerous a lot better, so I say Dangerous wins
1995 - HIStory V The Gold Experience
Winner: If you omitt the greatest hits disc and let the new stuff stand alone then Gold Experience wins, though not by a helluva lot
1997 - Blood on the Dance Floor V Crystal Ball
Winner: Crystal Ball in a landslide, even though there's a lot of crap on it
2001 - Invincible V The Rainbow Children
Winner: The Rainbow Children though Unbreakable is my jam headbang
2003 - Number Ones V NEWS
Winner: Number Ones, but it's not fair to rate an album of N.E.W. material in comparison to a greatest hits package
2004 - The Ultimate Collection V Musicology
Winner: Ultimate Collection, same qualifier as above though.
  - E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator

Yeah same qualifier however the ultimate collection had at least 12 unheard joints and one brand new one. Some of those were from Off The wall/Thriller so the Ultimate Collection wins, and Dangerous was MUCH better than Diamonds and Pearls in my oppinion.

eek eek eek This thread is a joke. Whoever said Thriller is better than 1999 needs a lobotomy (or at least needs to clean out the wax out of their ears). I like Thriller but 1999 is a major benchmark in Prince's career.

Same with this History is better than The Gold Experience...are you all really Prince fans?

The only one I'll go with is the Off The Wall comparison to Prince...although its a close one. I still listen to Prince a hell of a lot...and Off The Wall is the only MJ solo album I still listen to on a regular basis.

cool
    1979 - Off The Wall V Prince
Winner: Off The Wall It blows away Prince. I hate to say it... this is one of my fav. Prince albums.
    1982 - Thriller V 1999
Winner: 1999 The title song alone is better than most of Thriller's songs. I never thought Thriller was such a great album anyway.
    1987 - Bad V Sign O' The Times
Winner: Sign O'The Times bow NO COMPETITION! IT'S A CLASSIC!
    1991 - Dangerous V Diamonds & Pearls
Diamonds & Pearls I could not bring myself to buy Dangerous. The songs were too corny.
    1995 - History V The Gold Experience
The Gold Experience Prince funk & all
1997 - Blood On The Dance Floor V Crystal Ball
Winner: Crystal Ball Michael's album too boring compare to a 4 cd set
    2001 - Invicible V The Rainbow Children
Winner: The Rainbow Children I will admit i did not care too much for this album but i can listen to it. Michael can't stop copying off his old sound.
    2003 - Number Ones V NEWS
Winner: Number Ones A greatest hit album always score.
    2004 - The Ultimate Collection V Musicology
Winner: The Ultimate Collection this is a set hard to not want if you like Michael's Music
Result Prince still rulzes in my book music
