eek eek eek This thread is a joke. Whoever said Thriller is better than 1999 needs a lobotomy (or at least needs to clean out the wax out of their ears). I like Thriller but 1999 is a major benchmark in Prince's career.

Same with this History is better than The Gold Experience...are you all really Prince fans?

The only one I'll go with is the Off The Wall comparison to Prince...although its a close one. I still listen to Prince a hell of a lot...and Off The Wall is the only MJ solo album I still listen to on a regular basis.

Okay..I understand this is a Prince site and we are all Prince heads but come on Pagey....WTF.... There's nothing close about Off The Wall and Prince.....OTW wins that battle hands down....Rock With You and Can't Help It kills anything on Prince.....As for 1999 Vs Thriller....Thriller comes out slightly ahead of 1999---Yes 1999 was benchmark in Prince's career, but Thriller was a benchmark in popular music history.....Yes, 1999 kicks Thriller's ass in sheer innovation. But we are not talking about that...Dude just about released all the damn songs as singles from that album...As far as Sign Vs Bad...Sign destroys that album...I'm talkin' ass kickin.....As for Dangerous...it is one of that decades most underrated albums...Remember The Time is as good as any single that cat has ever done....

notto mention despite a few great songs on Diamonds and Pearls, the rest are so awful that it makes the album as a whole unlistenable. whereas Dangerous still rocks to this day.

I can listen to an argument about how 1999 is better than Thriller although I disagree, or that Bad is better the Sign..., which I disagree with as well, but anyone who would vote D&P's over Dangerous has absolutely no objectiveness whatsoever and their opinions should be ignored or dismissed.
this message brought to you by logic.

If someone gave me a MJ album as a gift today, I would throw it back at them, hopefully nailing them in their temple...HARD...and killing them instantly. But, with that said, here are my thoughts on this:

1979 - Off the Wall V Prince
Winner: Off the Wall This was the album that made me a MJ fan.

1982 - Thriller V 1999
Winner: 1999 Thriller is the most overrated album EVER. Who cares what it sold; Britney sells alot, too.

1987 - Bad V Sign O' the Times
Winner: Sign O' the Times SOTT is a CLASSIC. "Dirty Diana...(aw hell)NO!"

1991 - Dangerous V Diamonds and Pearls
Winner: Dangerous Tony M. killed D&P for me. Definitely a low point. Dangerous was a cut above.

1995 - HIStory V The Gold Experience
Winner: The Gold Experience This was the beginning of the end for me as far as MJ was concerned. The "You Are Not Alone" video blinded me for about a week. TGE is a juggernaut, even with We March.

1997 - Blood on the Dance Floor V Crystal Ball
Winner: Crystal Ball Easy choice

2001 - Invincible V The Rainbow Children
Winner: The Rainbow Children Talk about underrated. TRC is one of the best albums Prince has EVER done and hopefully this will become known by all. Invincible was crap in a bucket.

2003 - Number Ones V NEWS
Winner: N.E.W.S. I give it to news because it was a new release.

2004 - The Ultimate Collection V Musicology
Winner: Musicology May have been substandard work compared to TRC, but a solid effort.

Result: Wacko wins 5-4??? What do you guys reckon?

1979-off the wall(best shit mike ever did or will do)
1982-1999(just a way better effort)
1987-Sign O' the Times(the best that prince ever did)
1991-Diamonds & Pearls(a close one)
1995- the gold exp.(not fair comparing a greatest hits collection with an original lp,so thats why i give it to the gold exp)
1997- crystal ball(again blood on the dance floor is a remix lp,all already released at some point in time, crystal ball more or less an original lp)
2001-invincible(i didnt like either record but i really didnt like trp.and invincible had a great song with butterflies)
2003-n.e.w.s.(damn another micheal greatest hits lp)
2004-musicology(yet against another micheal lp,plus musicology was a damn good lp)

And, just to complete your list:

1978 - Nothing V For You

1994 - Nothing V Come
1996 - Nothing V Chaos and Disorder and Emacipation
1998 - Nothing V New Power Soul
1999 - Nothing V Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic

I think the message is clear...

making a slight adjustment

1978 - Destiny V For You --- Destiny
1980 - Triumph V Dirty Mind --- Triumph
1981 - The Jacksons Live V Controversy ----Controversy
1984 - Victory V Purple Rain -----Purple Rain

and if you wanna play unfair

1969 Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5
1970 ABC
1970 Third Album
1970 The Jackson 5 Christmas Album
1971 Maybe Tomorrow
1971 Greatest Hits
1971 Got to be there
1971 Going Back To Indiana
1972 Lookin' Through The Windows
1972 Ben
1973 Music and Me
1973 Get It Together
1973 Skywriter
1974 Dancing Machine
1975 Moving Violation
1975 Forever, Michael
1976 The Jacksons
1977 Goin' Places

I won’t count the J5 or early solo Mike, if you don’t count the Revolution or NPG. How's that?

After Prince came out with SOTT he eclipsed Michael. Bad was an artistic let down. I wonder how long this P VS MJ thing will go on.

Oh but if you go there you will get crushed because then you open it up to:
The time albums
The family
The Madhouse stuff
Jill Jones' great album
THE F'IN brilliant B-sides
Sheila E albums

Here is where MJ was a Joke or just Lazy?

1982 Thriller - 1987 BAD (2 Albums & a few songs, a pitty my brother's Victory Album)

Prince in 1982 - 1987:
1999 (Double Album)
Purple Rain
Purple Rain Movie (won an oscar)
Around the World in a Day (didn't whore out Purple Rain)
Parade
Under the Cherry Moon Movie
Sign O Times (2 Disk Album)
Sign O Times Movie
~Plus top hits with Stevie Nicks, The Bangels, Sheila E, The Time, etc. Plus Touring basically every album.

Prince is sick! We can see what he was addicted to! MUSIC & Working! Because since Paisley Park was built, Prince has like what 2,000+ songs ready to be released? Allot of those songs where recorded in this 1982-1987 Era cool Just think Prince kept off albums "Power Fantastic & Electric Intercourse" eek Most People would beg for those 2 songs to be the first singles. Prince kept them in the can eek

No problem buddy. To each his own. I like Mike's old stuff, especially J5, Desitny and Triumph.

But I think Bambi rocks harder than anything on OTW and really, I like I Wann Be Your Lover, I Feel For You, and Why You Want...just as much as anything on OTW. BUT Working Day and Night, Don't Stop..., and Off The Wall are KILLER tracks too...so for me its a draw on those two albums. As for the rest of them...Thriller got way too overplayed. Yeah it was a HUGE album...but does that mean it was better? Not imo. 1999 artistically kicks Thrillers ass in my ears.
As for the later albums...D&P is not one of my favorite albums...but I don't like Mike's newer stuff at all...it sounds SO forced to me. All the fun in his music is gone imo (I like Butterflies tho), D&P at least had some good tracks that I still listen to (Gett Off, Willing & Able, Insatiable, Money Don't...). I sold dangerous years ago. So I still say D&Ps is better.

Again, I respect MJ and his music...just not a fan of his new stuff. Sorry if I pissed u off.

lol To me Dirty Mind is the weakest of P's pre 1999 work. There's nothing on there even close to Heartbreak Hotel (This Place Hotel). especially when he would soon come out with dope shit like Annie Christian and Controversy on the next album.

You are a cool cat, dog...I'm glad there are some people on this site that can respectfully agree to disagree...As for the 1999---Thriller argument...it's not about sales...As innovative as 1999 was and still is Thriller was revolutionary in its own way (His videos were a part of the whole thriller experience and Beat It was pure pop genius)....I think as a whole we kind of get lost in the whole Wacko Jacko shit...When Thriller came out, it signaled a change in the way music artists were perceived...remember, a solo artist having that much impact culturally and commercially was unheard of...But those cats saying that Bad can get with SOTT, I'd like to have what you are smoking.....

I really go back and forth with this one, because sometimes it depends on my mood. I always turn to Prince's albums more more interesting, quirky, and creative ideas overall. But I tend to get really psyched when listening to Michael's incredible vocals and the production of songs like "Who Is It", Can't Let Her Get Away", and "Give Into Me"
