Why doesn't Prince use lasers and pyro. [b]Unlike many mega succesful artists and rock groups Prince doesn't use lasers or pyro in any of his shows.
This makes him totally unlike Michael Jackson whom hase flames, lasers, and fireworks popping everywhere. Prince is definetly big enough for it. Ever wonder why? Infact the only time I've ever seen him having any lasers was when he did that Paisley Park concert just before the Jam of THe Year tour which you could see him doing on the Oprah special. He doesn't even have jumbotrons(monitors) on some of his tours. Although he had that confetti paper dropping on the musicology tour during let's Go Crazy. FOr such a wild, erotic, revoloutinary, and expressive artist you'd think his shows would be more on the cutting edge of technology. Working up a purple sweat.

He decided that he'd much rather have an ejaculating guitar instead I'll leave graffiti where you've never been kissed

Hmmm - wondering just how many concerts you've seen?! He's had myriads of props in his time (although, after the Gold tour, his shows have been way stripped down and focussed on the music). Have you seen the LoveSexy show - about as complex a stage-set as you can get!! (Cars, beds, basketball court - wow!)
But all these pyros, lights and lasers are just superfluous to the experience anyway and, I'd argue, someone like Jackson needs all those extra distractions to keep people interested! And, seeing as I have mentioned the Gold tour, lets just look at the props used for that tour. He had spectacular lighting (though, I've felt he's had that since SOTT), a conveyor belt centre stage, so that he could do a variety of amazing moves whilst playing the guitar (although, the simplest of moves worked best for me there - he was just strutting without moving forward whilst ripping the fret board, it was great) and he had a huge golden "Palace" constructed behind him with poles, ramps and (the coup de gras) his own mixing console hidden inside a bit that was definitely intended to look like the most intimate place in female anatomy! Behind velvet, red curtains he would disappear and mix the show himself - I know of no other artist who has done that! (that in itself is certainly "cutting edge". So, he has certainly used all the stage-tricks and then some. I just think that those "big show" days are over. [Edited 3/9/05 4:23am] ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

If you want lasers & pyro & dancers go see Usher or Brittany Spears.
If you want good music stick with Prince.

That stuff cost money and takes it outta his pockets. Besides, the lack of pyro did not make his last tour any less spectacular. Oh, and there were jumbotrons here in Atl.

Yes there were, the firt time I've seen prince have screens in awhile.
I haven'r seen the Lovesexy or Gold tours. He had all that? I don't mean just merely props bur laserlights, and pyrotechnics. SO the artist pays for this stuff? I though the record company does. Still yet I know of al artists Prince ought to have enough to pay for it. Working up a purple sweat.

Because he doesn't need to! He's a true and extraordinary musician. He doesn't all that other crap. He himself is enough to entertain his audience.

No brainer. That's why the artists tour to pay off all videos and pay off all money borrowed from the record companyfor little things...then there are the deductions for paying off all the people that worked/work for you on tour and then theres your little amount of money once all the deductuions are made [Edited 3/9/05 15:31pm]

And I'll add that if you want to see all that crap look for some of the early 90's Act I and Act II shows. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

he just don't need 'em I don't have time to listen to new music, I've got too much old Prince to discover. Classic example : I was at club Nokia at the midnight show and didn't know "In a large room with no lights" . . . my bad Prince

this cracks me up... "I don't mean just merely props but laserlights, and pyrotechnics."
kind of like "more cowbell?" he had lasers (even on the rave dvd, right?), but I don't think prince has ever had an explosion but the there have been torches with flames, i think in '92 My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

If you want good music stick with Prince. Agreed... Prince doesn't need it... You go to a 4th of July show to watch the fire works... You go to a Prince concert to listen to his music... And I'm sure money isn't an object to him... [Edited 3/9/05 22:35pm]
