Purple Rain Unedited

Does anyone know or have a copy of the unedited version of Purple Rain? I remember when the movie was released, Donnie Simpson, a DJ on WKYS, said he had seen the unedited version.

I think i read somewhere that in the unedited version, Jill Jones is featured more. There are a couple scenes that were not included in the movie but I think you can see in one of the music videos. One is where prince goes to the rehearsal space where Morris, jerome and Apollonia Six are and a fight breaks out. There is also a scene with Morris and Apollonia running from Princes house.

I have the unedited version. Not too exciting...a lot of background noise/music not yet added. a couple minutes of extra footage. a 20th anniversary DVD would be cool! i am sure Prince would even do some interviewing for it as he is a lot more talkative now!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I've seen a clip from the film containing a scene where Prince does a Sugar Ray Robinson on either Jellybean or Jerome (and it looked v realistic)

Can anyone clear this one up for me???

Yeah it's Jellybean. Prince barges in on The Times and A6 rehearsal etc.

Plus, of course, the alternative ending with Prince leaving Apollonia with the immortal lines; 'Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn' in the Camille voice.

I have an early script of 'Purple Rain'.In this version,Vanity is the co-star (not Apollonia). It contains many scenes that were not in the final movie. In this early version,Prince and the Revolution perform two songs that did not appear in the finished film---"G-Spot" and "Electric Intercourse".There are also a few really steamy love scenes.

In early 1984,I remember MTV reporting that the film received an "X" rating,so it had to be re-edited just to get an "R" rating.I also recall a classmate of mine insisting that she had seen the "X-rated version"....lol...I was like "yeah, right"wink

I'll try to find that early script and give you the details about all the delated scenes. It's somewhere in my garage.

BTW, the version of PURPLE RAIN that you have said is unedited is incorrect. Technically, it has been edited, otherwise it wouldn't be in any order. It is just a different edit. There is a great article in an older magazine of UPTOWN by Troy Motes about what was in that version.

If you are looking for something that is 'UNEDITED' than checkout the Mountains video outtakes or the SOTT film outtakes. They are truly not edited, but a series of different clips assembled for the editor to look at.

Hope that helps.

Ive seen that script for sale in L.A. Heres an online one. Scene 76 and 77 has the scene where Prince interrupts The Times rehearsal and he and Jellybean struggle etc. It is reminiscent of the Graffiti Bridge scene where Prince barges in on The Time and they have a struggle.
