I've always wondered who from his past this song was about? Any ideas? I've heard all kinds of stories such as Vanity, Susie M. Great song though!

Vanity's character in Purple Rain was originally named Nikki. Prince decided Darling Appolonia didn't sound quite right so he kept it Nikki.

Oh yeah, she was a hooker in the story as well.

Hmmm. I have an original copy of the Purple rain movie script (Dreams), and I don't remember any mention of Vanity of being a hooker?
