20 Years, 5 Months, 2 weeks, 4 days. I finally Got Modernaire! For over 20 years I tried to make my "alternative" Purple Rain album. We all wanted to include Sex Shooter, Jungle Love and The bird, and we all did!
But we were fooling ourselves! Not the film loop. Not the demo. Finally, I got the new Dez Double CD today. I FINALLY GOT MODERNAIRE! Tomorrow, The Purple Rain SOUNDTRACK gets played for the first time. 20 years is worth the wait..... Thanks Dez! . | |

I just got my copy of the set yesterday....only on disc 1 thus far but I am diggin it. And it is a great feeling to hear Modernaire in it's entirety.
Although he didn't include it....dez said that he found an extended version of Modernaire during his search through tapes as well. Hopefull we'll see that one at some point. It was worth the $50.00....and I can hear how he influenced Prince as well. Some of his guitar playing has a Prince vibe. If you don't have it...go get it before it's gone. The double CD is great, even if it is a little dated. Its worth it alone for the originals of Modernaire and After Hi School. The original Bite The Beat never made it on there (next CD dez?).
The sound is typical 80's rock, but some great vocal styles from Dez and the "prince" sounding guitar all over it! I love the second half of Modernaire. A lot more guitar. I took a long drive today, listening to my new Purple Rain CD! 1. Lets Go Crazy (Extended Version) 2. Jungle Love 3. Take Me With U 4. God (instrumental) 5. Modernaire 6. The Beautful Ones 7. Computer Blue 8. Darling Nikki 9. When Doves Cry 10. Sex Shooter (Extended Version) 11. When Doves Cry 12. The Bird 13. Purple Rain 14. I Would Die 4 U 15. Baby I'm a star 16. What about Fathers Song? What about that funky tune that DR. Fink and the drummer are rehersing? Or is that part of computer blue or another Prince tune? It goes something like this. ditta ditta dit dit da, waa waa waa waa waa wah wah (or something like that) There is also another song in the background during the Lake Minnetonka scene (nice cool sexy instrumental). And lets not forget the song that is playing backwards when they are in Prince's basement. Some of these you may consider background songs, but they are just as in the background as GOD (love theme) and Possessed. Hopefully you won't be posting 20 years from now you finally have those too!  | |

Dez has released a retrospective CD set dated 1982-1987 which has one prince-related track on it. | |
