Yeah, that's reasonable. It's just that being a musician myself, I can't help but notice such things...and I suspect other musicians would, as well. It ain't got that swing. But that doesn't mean a thing.

I'm not a jazz musician myself, nor am I a pop musician. I'm just a musician. Like Prince, I dabble in different styles, perhaps the master of none, but well versed in several. It's kind of pretentious to call anything good or bad or clumsy, in my opinion, when it is as well played as the second half of "She Spoke 2 Me". The whole band on that track has impressive chops.

No, no, no... I'm not gonna say you're wrong, but I really don't agree. If you look at "jazz music" as a language, I would say that Prince and his band have some of the vocabulary, they know a couple of words - but they don't know how to pronounce them... They "speak" musically with a strong accent, that suggests they really come from somewhere else. Nothing wrong with that - and of course it's still possible to get a message across, it's just that it sounds a bit funny. But again, I think "She Spoke 2 Me" is a great song!

Still, When the Lights Go Down is better! Damn, he plays the piano on that one! Vocals could be a bit better, though.
