A accoustic album of the old hits? Just when I thought it couldnt get anymore dull then Musicology.
Goodnight, sweet Prince.

Looks to me like Prince will be using the acoustic album as a stepping stone toward getting bigger and better deals in the music industry. It may not be what we were waiting for, but you know it's gonna sell. And props to our Princely pioneer for changing the music industry so that artists can still own their masters and negotiate an album-by-album deal -- whether it be for legends like Prince, or relatively newcomers like JMac. When it's all said and done, I hope and pray that Prince is at least remembered as being the one who started it all. He laid it all on the line and made the sacrifice -- he deserves the credit!

i'd love to hear an acoustic album of prince's hits. i'd love to hear an album of new music. i'd love it if he released neither and just put out the musicology live DVD. i'd love it if he did an album of sitar and yodelling. actually, i would especially love that. nuts

I think it was stated quite awhile back that it would be studio rerecordings.

i'm startin to doubt the whole re-recording idea...

Maybe this is what was meant by him "recording with old friends". The "friends" being his old hits being re-recorded for this acoustic project. Ah, who knows...

don't like the idea. maybe as a bonus disc for a DVD or some other project, yes. but as the main focus of a new album???? acoustic versions of past hits?

Lame.

An acoustic album of some of his hits would be great. I could tell during the Musicology tour that something like that was coming, because that was the part of the concert where he enjoyed himself the most. So I'll get it, though I was looking forward to some new songs.

As for his music not being relevant, I'm not sure. For one thing, I thought the very concept of relevance in today's music was long dead. Our experience of music is both fractured and artificially pumped, and there are perhaps a couple of acts that can have a fraction of the relevance some artists had years ago, to the point it's irrelevant. There is no big crown of relevance available out there. In any case, relevant or not, Prince's still worth an article in Slant -- things must not be as bad as the author claims. smile

I think you may have something there.
Its that wacky wordplay Prince likes to use.
Like the producer he was bringing in to produce Rave - himself.

And I thought we were the sane fans -- guess not. Some of y'all get way too religious about Prince. The person who wrote the article is right. I mean, I wouldn't have said it quite that way, but... he's right!

I havent been participant in all of those discussions. I often bow out as soon as the die-hard fans start monologing...

But from what I heard (probably through other channels) I just assumed that the joy he had playing the material live would result in a live album.

I know I like that idea more than an acoustic studio album... that was half the charm of songs like Cream, his bantering to the audience, him playing the audience.

I do not mind what he puts out. I'l get it no matter what, as I always do.

his asking us to sing along to raspberry beret in our best Minnesota accents sigh I would love a live acoustic album...

Me too. But then again, I also would love a studio acoustic album or a regular studio album... I love the vibe he has at the moment, even if I do not play Musicology often.

didnt he say he was going to retire his hits after the Musicology tour?
Seems to me he saw how well the accoustic sets went down on tour
and is maybe thinking $$$.
Surely the casual fan who went along to the concert would buy a copy.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Actually, I think a good acoustic album could sell well with the 35plus crowd. His hits and some covers, and a dignified approach to converse the old funk songs with style would have quite an appeal.

Think of the millions of records Eric Clapton sold with his unplugged album

I think a lot of people would by it

Still just a rumor, I guess. But at least there's a link.

THE EMANCIPATION PROCLIMATION

Rumors are circulating that Prince is courting several major labels to release his next album, which will reportedly be a collection of acoustic versions of his biggest hits. And get this: Artists could come back to a label even after dalliances with competitors! What an idea! It's an open relationship even a Jehovah's Witness could endorse.

so it would be MUSICOLIGY part II kinda like,
cool for those whom have seen the musicoligy tour
and even better for those whom still have to go.

No your statements are not credible. Put down the weed and pay attention.

No lawsuits or courtdays during the WB years.
Wb/Aol sold WB music. The new owners have not really gotten the new WB off the ground. So at this time there is no WB for P to really go back to.

CD sales or still down and have been for the last five years or so.

Woman, nevermind the pot, my point is P needs a label but his reputation and album sales are f***ed up. nod No one really wants him.

Ok...What is it with all u "fams" dissing Musicology?! Is it because it once again put Prince on the cover of magazines and back on the TV? I just don't get how u fail 2 see the brilliance of this record. Listen to the transition between "marrying kind" and "IEWTMIYL", listen to the vocal gymnastics of "on the couch", and Reflection? The most honest song Prince has EVER released.

Keep the acustic album of songs we already know. Why rehash old stuff? What a waste, a year goes by and we're gonna get this? Musicology is done Prince, people loved it, the acoustic set was a huge hit, but lets not beat a dead horse here. I am very dissapointed the new album will not be new material.

On top of that, how bout some new songs at the club?

Maybe his creative well is starting to run dry, and an acustic album of hits is the answer.....

Artist at his age always see a drop off in sales. So for his sell the 2 million is pretty good.
I guess you have not been keeping up with what has been going on with P.
He is not looking to be on a permanent record label. No label would let him do a CD give-away or keep his master tape.

If you are waiting for him to be on a label permentaly keep waiting. What he is doing seems to be working for him. Do a little reserch on what has been going on and get back with him when you are well informed.
