the black album - prince at his funniest?

the black album is the funniest shit i've heard from the man. the lyrics are so witty, not to mention the music of course..

le grind, cindy c and dead on it are so much fun. cindy c beeing a great comment to a stardom/model world with strange values and dead on it being a very very funny comment on rappers and their competition on money, fame and size of diamonds..

i can't believe somebody calls this a dark or negative or introspective album.

its funny, witty, rare and ... dead on it!

i might consider this record among top 3. it is a blast!

Yup - I'd put it up there with his best albums. It does have a darker edge to it than his other work, but its funny, funky and raw!

In terms of humour, I'd stand it alongside Exodus - that had some of his funniest skits too smile

It was officially an NPG release with Prince guesting on it under the pseudonym of Tora Tora. It's definitely worth picking up a copy, if you can find it.

Definitely a classic. Not in my top 3, but an essential album. My faves are Bob George, Superfunkicalifragisexy, and Le Grind!
It's goin' down y'all.

dark side yeah, if you check out some of the older threads, you'd get a wide perspective as to why it was called the Black Album (not to start any rumors)
and why he possibly requested that it not be purchased although I do have a copy, and yeah the lyrics are funny but not the reason for the Album itself

Although your statement is true, the reality is that it is a Prince album through and through, with the NPG guesting on it!! lol

Agreed that it is essential to your collection however - an absolute classic with strong cuts and funny-as segues smile

I love this album. Totally great combination of dark funk, lots of attitude, and really edgy, humourous wit. Dead On It is easily one of the funniest, most attitude filled songs he's ever recorded too.

See, the rapper's problem usually stem from being tone deaf
Pack the house, then try to sing? There won't be no one left.

Snap

On this album, Prince said what most of us are usually thinking but could never say. And yeah, he was pretty clever in the way he said it. Dirty Mind on Acid [insert the long silly laugh from "Superfunkycalifragisexy" here]

Dirty Mind on Acid

could prince actually have been on drugs. the shit on the black album sure is freaky, and not the kind of pink floyd'ish borrowing shit you would do on a reefer.

it could've come out of a pill, though. or pills. i wonder which ones.
