Do Prince and Michael Jackson meticulously avoid each other?

Apart from the James Brown thing, i can't think of them ever being present together at an event or award show since.

or have they? confuse

I love your avatar Marrk!

But in response to your question, I think Prince and MJ do avoid each other in public. I don't know. Just think about it. How would it have looked if both of them were present at....let's say the 1984 American Music Awards? Just wouldn't have been right. As bad as it sounds, being a huge fan of both of them, I can't even imagine them talking to each other in public. The image would be awkward.

I think it's a good question. I think they've been present at the same Grammy awards once or twice, but for the most part they duck each other.

I can see it now.....Michael Jackson (5'11'') having an intent conversation with Prince (5'4'') about the pros and cons of royalty:

Michael: "Man....this whole king thing is difficult to keep up with. But I do like my title."

Prince: "Yeah...I guess homeboy. But U better watch out. I'm gonna usurp your throne!!!"

lol

No seriously, I don't think the will be friends.... I mean, Prince (at the time) was all about sex, and Michael jackson NOT!

And that is just one example!

Prince turned down the bad duet, and that wasn't for nothing.....

I think it is a shame though, I'd like to see 2 of these great ones of music performing together...

I think it was the '88 Grammys. When Mike finished "Man InThe Mirror" the producers panned to Prince, who seemed reluctant to get out of his seat and join the standing ovation Mike was getting. If I'm not mistaken, this was also the night P lost to U2 (BULLSHIT!!!), so it Prince probrably wasn't in the best of moods. confused

Hmmm....I have that on tape somewhere. I'll have to find it and check that out. I completely missed the camera shot of Prince after Michael's performance. Interesting....

I think it also had something to do with the fact that half of Man in the Mirror was lipsynched. Prince hasn't exactly been a supporter of lipsynching.

Ummm.....completely different situation. Prince could not use the original live recorded concert for the SOTT movie because of distortion and poor quality. So he had to overdub the original live vocals over a re-recorded version of the concert at Paisley Park. Michael could have and should have sung "Man In The Mirror" live. No comparison here.

He also lipsynched on American bandstand performing "I wanna be your lover" ,
on another show performing "The greatest romance ever sold" ,
and on another show (some kind of award show ?) performing Emancipation nod
(although not entirely lipsynched i think)

Outside of the rest of the Jackson's, and his attorneys, who isn't avoiding Michael Jackson? Even Corey Feldman has jumped ship and is a witness for the prosecution.

Still, you are talking about 1980 /1996 and 1999....this is a few times... MJ is doing it almost on his whole tour from 93 until now!

You were EXPECTED to lipsynch on American Bandstand. Not sure which other two shows you're talking about (could you be more vague), but Prince hasn't built a reputation on lipsynching in concert like ol' Mikey. Are you going to mention the fact that Prince lipsynched in his (gasp) videos, also? eek eek

I thought the grammys was an awards show rather than a concert and the point being made was that P has done the same at awards shows. Another example being TMBGITW at the World Music Awards in Monaco. What has videos got to do withthe argument?

Oh come on now. If you went to a Michael Jackson concert (without a doubt) you'd see/hear lip synching. I have never NEVER been to a Prince concert where he has mimed lyrics----and I've been to countless Prince shows.
