Mountains

Was watching UTCM DVD yesterday and forgot how cool the Mountains video was! The band looked so at ease together. The song itself is a real fave of mine its so joyous and really really funky. As a DJ in the mid to late 80s I remember the double take some people did when I put the 12" version on , it really got them moving.

I've been kind of surprised he hasn't played this song on any of more recent tours. I mean, with lyrics like "Africa divided, hijack in the air..." seems like he would have dusted this one off.

This has always been one of my favorite P songs.

maybe cause its a wendy and lisa song.....come to think of it, are the wendy and lisa songs the least played songs out of his catalog in concert?

wendy and lisa ghost arranged a lot of what ended up on Parade....They would do the music. Or Prince would do the music and send it the girls while he was filming the movie.....Obviously some of it is Prince, and prince alone (Kiss, Venus)...but, I think this was the album that had the most wendy and lisa input..Which probably was why Prince felt he needed to go it alone...

Hmmmm. I have mad respect for dem' gurlz! I love their work! I just recently got my hands on EROICA. My brother let me "copy" it. I hated to copy the material as I am generally "against" it, but I just could not find the album anywhere! cry

I guess I am really missing out. I would love to get my hands on some music, but I guess I hesitate cause of a bad experience with someone ripping me off on a website. I have yet to buy anything else over the internet. Trust me SOS, I'mma buy it when I see it! I need to get their other albums on CD, I still have them on tape. Question, didn't they collab with S E A L on "crazy"? I have a video with Wendy singing backround with S E A L on Saturday Night Live.

yes, wendy and lisa worked on seals first two cds..(and an excerpt from on of their film scores is sampled on "excerpt from" from his third cd)....their most involvement was on his second cd were they co-wrote four (i think) of the songs and played on the entire album....

sus was dating seal at the time....

S E A L III, is one of my favorites. Trevor Horn is a great producer. Thanx for the info.

This might explain it's conspicious absence from The Hits; it was a much bigger chart hit than many of the songs that made the cut.

This is probably my favorite song on Parade. I've yet to get the UtCM DVD, so I didn't see the video until last week actually. VH1 Classic aired it, and I've since watched it about 153 times. Love that big fucking hat! lol

Did Revolution members have something to do with the arrangement of "Purple Rain" also? Those strings sound an awful lot W&L.

Album liner notes:

"Strings on 'Take Me With U', Baby I'm A Star' & 'Purple Rain' by David Coleman - cello, Novi Novog - violin & viola, Suzie Katayama - cello - arranged by Lisa & Prince, conducted by Lisa & Wendy"

In rehearsal for the Musicology tour, they performed an Elephants & Flowers/Mountains medley. I don't think they ever played it at any shows though.

They performed it without any difficulty when I saw them in 1986.
